good tips here. I'm going to try this in my 2001 Civic today. I've heard in some other videos to put a scissor jack on the drivers seat to hold the steering wheel still. Thanks for the video.

Sauce Chi hmmm never thought about a scissor jack to hold the steering wheel. just make sure you have a measuring tape it works really good if you can put your car on tire ramps so you can get under it with out jacking it up. tire ramps help big time.

I also recommend to have the whole vehicle on all 4 tire ramps. just make sure you are on level ground may have to put your jack stands on something to help keep that string in the center.

Nice tip with the string. I've had good luck strapping a level to each front tire horizontally. Measuring in front and back of the tires adjusting. String seams simpler. A little jealous of that old rusty 19 combo wrench, bet it could tell some stories.

The other easiest way than to looking at the fender like I did. Just take the tape and measure the distance from the side wall to the string. Divide the difference. Sometimes the fender can throw ya off sometimes. Optical illusions can play a roll. But it's also can get ya in the ball park. 😏

I've got a firebird now and done the string method with it. I still have not taken it to the shop for a alignment. It'll drive straight down the road. The ones that don't have a rack seems to be easier to align easier. Ones with a rack to me their a little more difficult.

@@movaughn20 back when I done the alignment on my truck I took it to the shop just to see how close I was. The front end man there asked he said how did you get your alignment so close. I asked him why's that is it almost spot on. He said you were literally .2 degrees off. That's damn good he said you can leave it or I can fine tune it a bit more. I told him I used jack stands and string method old school stuff lol he said well you can leave it or I can adjust it. Told him go ahead and 0 tolerance it. I don't want it to pull in either direction unless the road says other wise. And by golly he did just that still haven't been to the alignment shop since 🤣

If you have an alloy wheel flip them all around so the rim is facing *In* on all 4. Lug studs may not be long enough, in that case use steel wheels to align.

Didn't have a extra set of wheels. But it still worked. No longer have the car. An you cant flip those wheels around cant clear the caliper

Got to make sure that steering wheel stays straight... Take a bungi cord make a few wraps at the bottom of the steering wheel.. Hook it to the bottom of the seat.. Make sure its wraped tight it'll hold the steering wheel

Just besure after you adjust one side check the steering wheel if its still straight good move to the other side an an adjust it accordingly. Tighten everything up recheck. If steering still looks good take it for a test drive. If everything was done correctly you should notice the steering wheel stay straight even driving it.

@@amberericjones5694 I gotcha , I was thinking alignment shops loosen the steering column to line the wheel up , now I understand they actually have to keep adjusting the toe until the wheel is straight. I think that’s why some shops are to lazy to adjust the steering wheel , because you have to load the car back on to the rack and attach the wheel laser guides etc.. most techs I’ve found give an excuse of “ that’s the best we can do “ compared to other shops that actually take the car back up on the rack and adjust it. In this case , since we are doing it ourselves .. it’s going to take a handful of attempts to get the wheel to line up. Do you agree? Small 8th turns in the tie rod until it’s lined up properly.

Does this actually work properly on this car? The rear track is narrower than the front. Meaning the rear wheels should be set inward a bit vs the front. If so, that means the front tires would be toed out if you're aligning them to the narrower rear width.

If you have a bungie cord strap it to the bottom of the steering wheel an hook it to the bottom of the driver seat. Wished I thought of that when I done these videos. Bungie cord will help hold the steering wheel straight an tight of no movement. That way it allows you to adjust the alignment alot better.

Check control arms, lower A arms, check in and out play on the inner tie rods make sure it didn't do any damage to the joints. Make sure it didn't bend the tierods inner or outer. And also check steering knuckle.

I make these videos for those who want to try to attempt to do the job themselves. So I explain step by step on what needs to be done so those that dont really understand now understands how to do it.. I sometimes dont know how to just get to the point. I'd rather explain than to not say a word in the video like most people do in these videos. I want to make sure iam clear and I also want to make sure people understand.
