It comes right out if you take the lower steering column cover off. 3 T10 torx screws, take the cover down, and you can pull the switch out through that spot with PLENTY of room to spare. Not sure why people are fighting to r&r the thing, it practically falls out lol

Hey I am doing this right now, but I have 3 T20 screws and it seems like it’s still hanging on somewhere else. Any ideas?

Thanks for the tip. Yes removing that lower steering column cover gave great access.

For those with a lower steering column cover with Torx screws, is your car a 2009 997.2?

You should list this as being suitable for later model 987 Boxster too. All the other videos that reference the 987 show it was being the same as the 986 and 996 which is a physical switch. This one in 997.2 and later 987 is an electronic switch.

I think the ignition switch is problematic not the barrel! It control the key release!!

Would I need to recode the key, or use the key that came with the replacement part (if I bought used). Or does this have nothing to do with the hard key and door open/ close.

@@forumvideos1089 what led you to replacing the ignition switch actually? My car can’t be started actually while starter, starter cable and a new battery were put in.

@@samyeong7578 if your steering column is locked it won't start, it might be is sleep mode! It usually happens with weak batteries. Try removing the two female pins from microswitch on clutch pedal and hooking them to a big 10amp fuse. Then try to start it! If it still doesn't start. Open engine cover locate the starter and one thin wire, place a test light on thin wire while holding the light let someone crank it, if the light comes on but starter doesn't move. You have a dead starter. Porsche straters are very fragile with bad ignition switches if you hold it long enough in starting position, you can fry it. Good luck.

What was the issue that led you to changing this? My key is difficult to remove from the ignition and I wonder whether changing this would fix it?

Correct, the key would not release or reliably start car. Rennlist thread: rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/876331-997-2-ignition-switch-replacement.html

Also, the replacement switch is already exhibiting the same behavior as the broken one. It's terribly engineered. Or, from the perspective of a company that makes money on selling replacement parts, it's perfectly engineered to be a crappy part that we have to buy every few years.

Did you receive a bad part? What was your long term outcome? I have a switch coming my way. I think it has 2 year warranty from FCP. thanks@@forumvideos1089

Is this an indication my ignition needs to be replaced like u did in this video? Thx
