I was honored to attend the 9th Annual Indigenous Peoples' Day Celebration on Randalls Island, New York (10/8/23). The turnout was amazing despite the autumnal chill. Represented tribes, nations, and groups included the Menominee, Lenape, Mohawk, Māori, the Indigenous peoples of Polynesia, and descendants of the Inca, among many others. It was a beautiful expression of resilience and resistance, featuring dance, storytelling, speeches, hip-hop performances, and beyond, as well as a much-needed deconstruction of colonialist and imperialist legacies.
