First of all, it's a great marketing move for John Deere to get its representative personally involved in what is obviously an existential threat to a small family business. Always let your customers know you have their backs. Next, a tip of the hat to the local JD franchisee (Fivestar) for running a clean shop with pro talent twisting the wrenches. Finally, after watching dozens of this channel's videos I've concluded that somebody is earning an OTJ MBA in marketing from the sawdust-covered ground up. Her name is Emerald.

To Think that the Turbo intake fan was eating the shroud and the bits got into the engine which then eat out the rings and then contaminates oil. It's a cascade effect and draws attention to Turbo Inspections on a yearly basis to ensure it is not doing it again. The exhaust side would just spit metal of the shrouding out to the atmosphere. However it is good Idea to inspect the Turbo for bearing wobble signs. Also the turbo can eat up the oil when bearing failing. SO yeah turbo should always spin center and never wobble.

Ouch! It has been a rough winter for logging here in Pa without equipment failures. Unfortunately maintenance on new equipment is often put off or neglected especially by those struggling to just make the payments, another reason to become allergic to debt. It is unfortunate that you have not gotten much use out of this machine before this happened but going forward hopefully with good maintenance it will last a long time. I liked my newer Deere but not this part when I shopped for a slightly used one to replace it I kept weighing the cost of the needed neglected maintenance and what if this kind of failure happened vs just buying a new one. The ROI for a small 1 person opperation was just not there either way, so I bought an old Timberjack and rebuilt it with cash. I sleep much better now. Hopefully you are able to do the same with this machine. It is good you still have the other skidder, looks like we are going to finally get some more cold weather coming in this week. For that kind of money they should replace every bearing, seals, rebuild all the hydraulic cylinders, replace the hydraulic pumps and motors, then you’re getting a little closer to a new machine.
@meporter69
8 ай бұрын
You are correct, this an excellent value. The old engine needed a complete overhaul, this alone can be $15 000. While the motor is out, either rebuild at $5000 or replace the transmission. Differentials ($10 000 each)are going to be a problem down the road, addressing them now will save money. Seals, bolts, yokes, hoses, harnesses, fluids and labor... I have not researched the prices, only estimated. Reliability in the field should not be a compromise. When I rebuild anything, I make recommendations. I would assume the final decision to do the repairs are the customers choice, not the shops. Stop banging on the dealer when you do not know the details.

@Richard-zz7gm The bad thing about the new computerized equipment. You need to spend a few hundred grand on diagnostic equipment just to work on them, and it's proprietary hardware and software for that particular manufacturer of equipment. @rightsideofthegrass8114 torque converter was low on torque, muffler bearings were seized... Most of the big name shops don't know how (or don't want to) to fix anything, they just replace parts. I'd much rather pull the dirty stuff off and junk it, then put clean new parts on with brand new hardware than have to do all the cleaning and wire wheeling.. That being said, I assume they were given options, and it sounds like they (LCLY) picked, fix everything that even looks like it's getting tired, so we don't have to do this again.
