Nice to see you at GCR Sam. I go there a few times every year for the variety of visiting locomotives that run there, and I'm never disappointed. It takes us back down memory lane to all those nostalgic times many people remember, the sight, the sound, the smells, the atmosphere of yesteryear. And being partly double tracked adds some extra realism to the experience.

Hehehehe excellent Chloe, you need to get the 'old boy' out more often! I'm based near Bluebell Railway in East Sussex and have enjoyed their Pullman evening dining experience, so I know exactly how it feels to be almost taken back in time to good service and food! It's nice to be spoiled and get spoiled occasionally! Maybe if the purse strings permit you could both do other tours of preserved railways, its insightful and you're both a good dynamic! I suspect Sam'll have to do the honourable thing next and present a ring for a railway themed wedding! 👍👍👍

I lived in Loughborough for many years before retirement from the time when the GCR was first set up as a heritage railway. Early train dining consisted of beans on toast and strong tea along just a couple of miles of track. Like so many of our heritage lines to see the effort that has been put in by both hands on volunteers and financial backers over the years makes our railway heritage movement the envy of the world. In the case of this railway you will soon be able to travel from Ruddington just south of Nottingham to Leicester via Loughborough through charming English countryside, doubling the length of the current journey. I can't wait. A great video production, well done.

Beautifully filmed and produced, really doing justice to the GCR. I was born and bred very close to where the GCR loco shed now is. My first railway memories (from the 1950s) are of A3 Pacifics on the GCR, including Flying Scotsman. By the way, my parents always pronounced it as Rothley (like both, not like Rothmans) and I can't believe that they pronounced it wrongly!

Aah, our local railway, we did the Sherwood Forester dining experience a few years ago for a wedding anniversary. Been back to the Great Central a couple of times since, hopefully they will join it up with Ruddington one day for a longer run. Also been on the Santa Special at Ecclesbourn last 2 years, just bought a Dublo 2 6 4 standard tank and changed it's running number to 80080 to match the Ecclesbourn one. We really enjoy your videos, bought a 3d printer because of your inspiration. Having fun designing and printing spare parts and scenic elements.

Sam i know what you mean about the 9F. Back in 1900 and frozen to death i was a winner of a colouring competition the prize was a trip on the so called zoom express (it was sponsored by walls ice cream) from Paddington to Swindon works museum. It was hauled by evening star which was fairly new at the time. I was young so although I didn’t get to drive i did get shown around the cab by the loco crew. It remains a highlight of my life/

Nice video Sam and Chloe. Can also recommend this. My wife and I few years ago took the evening meal and we loved it. Coach was full of life, staff were happy and efficient. Loved it all. The vibe on platform at Loughborough before we left was great, nostalgic, brass band and real ale, steam chuffing, friendly staff. The seats on train were really comfortable and coach was so cosy. It was summertime when we were there (although been raining earlier but sunny when we arrived at station in evening) but all was so relaxing and fun. Next day did went back to station to look at locos, depot, station etc before driving back south. Highly recommended.

Nice one Sam and Chloe. It looks like a grand day out for you both finished off with some great cheese. You must have been over the moon. Those 1:1 scale models are incredibly detailed and to the naked eye could be mistaken for the real thing. Although we didn't see the unboxing, accessory bag or running in, the mechanism was great, No dodgy pickups on any the locos. All running locos had sound fitted and a brilliant crawl. This layout must have been in a huge loft as well. Joking aside I'll have to take a trip up to the GCR at some point. That definitely look like a Peak diesel and I think I noticed a class 25 lurking as well. Seeing a couple of Ivatt class 2's moguls was a real treat, one or both may have been standard class 2's but I'm a bit rusty on the major differences. A top job well done and thanks for sharing. I'm green with envy that you drove a 9F. My late father and I drove an ex GWR 0-6-2 tank (sorry I forget the number) on the East Somerset Railway some 20 odd years ago and that was a great experience.

Happy reminiscing! Been to the GCR a few times over the years, the most memorable being a "Driving Experience" which was a 60th birthday present (!) I couldn't believe my luck when I turned up expecting to drive a "Thomas the Tank Engine" lookalike, only to find "Oliver Cromwell" waiting there on the platform! Talk about gobsmackingly good!!! Many years before that I remember seeing "Duke of Gloucester" in its pre-restored condition and thinking "they will never that THAT going again" - thankfully I was well wrong! It will be interesting to see how the "reunification" project goes, as there was at the time I was last there some quite bad blood between "GCR South" and "GCR North". I have childhood memories of standing on Ruddington station when it was still open in BR days watching steam services heading in and out of Nottingham Victoria. That will be "GCR North" of course these days!

The spacious coach is a recently back in service refurbished open coach to better serve people in wheelchairs. Standard service is mainly steam trains with a diesel pulling a couple while one of the steam pulls the mid day diner. This weekend (16 and 17th April) is a diesel gala though. Loads of trains running. I would say I’m one of the Duty Station Masters at Loughborough so am biased but think Great Central offers a full on heritage service being the only double track heritage railway in the country.

We did this around a year ago without the meal. Nice it is shot in top quality 4K. As for the cream, probably just an innocent oversight, they would have probably provided you with this with just a gentle prod. We did not do the meal because I struggle with the seats as in, I am 17 stone, 6ft 1 with a 56 inch chest, I just do not fit. We both know that when these carriages were built people on the whole were a lot smaller. Brings back some nice memories, thanks for the video.

If it wasn't for a Tracy Ullman video I wouldn't have discovered the pleasing number of British heritage railways. I'm a retired railroad conductor so naturally I take an interest. I thoroughly enjoy your Thomas videos since my wife and I raised our boys viewing the Shining Time Station series on PBS television. We do have some preserved railway operations here in the United States, but not on the scale as you have in the UK. I'm certain that wedding bells are in the future for you and Chloe. Your loft layout is wonderful. I have an O gauge and an O27 gauge layout. The O gauge is for the Lionel trains and the O27 is for the Marx. I also preform my own repairs and take great satisfaction in keeping these vintage trains in top mechanical condition. Take care and God bless.
