My dad was a mechanic at a GM dealership back in the 60's and 70's, and when ordering parts at the parts counter, often the same part (such as a spark plug, with the exact same part#) for a basic Chevy would be cheaper than if it were ordered under a Corvette work order.

Love how a mechanic out in the bumble-eff midwest knows all this stuff yet I live in a major city in Florida and in 25 years have not found one who really knows a damn thing about any car for the most part. The usual answer I get to issues "It all needs to be replaced". Replace this replace that and eventually, they get lucky. My checkbook usually drained of course by the time this happens.

John, too many of these guys are like copier repair men, just keep replacing parts until it works correctly. 'Wizard' like many good and reputable mechanics understands how and why cars/trucks/etc work the way they do. They consult technical manuals as well as the knowledge base of enthusiasts and mechanics to gain understanding. I wish I had a wizard too, my guy was younger brother of a friend of my Dad. Owners of his shop space would not renew his lease and turned it into a garage for their plows and crap. He retired.

Buying these types of cars second-hand post-depreciation but with low-miles is the way to go. One case was a 1989 Maserati Spyder we picked up in 1994 with only 7K miles. It was my wife's daily and we secured our daughter's car seat to the metal support bar running in back of the rear back-support, with her feet then resting in between the two front seats. Yes, dropping her at daycare people assumed you had it going on.

Rewrap the hood with another wrap but leave the grill alone. The brushed steel look on the hood is what makes it look a lot newer. They have better wraps than what was on there because the one that was there seemed kind of plastic looking. Sorry about the wheels

Rolls Royce in known for this www.rolls-roycemotorcars.com/en-US/bespoke/colour-without-compromise.html The wrap doesn't make it look more modern it makes it look messed with and buyers looking at what else you rigged. If this was a Bmw, Lexus, Cadillac most anything but a Rolls or Bentley a hood wrap might work. it's the fine touches like you're paying for. That's why they farm out the drive train and don't bother in house anymore that isn't what really sets them apart.

That run flat ring should cut off, it's just forced onto the wheel like a tyre is- kzitem.info/news/bejne/03ye3XeIpJmqoYY It all hinges on whether the bead seat is a different shape to the one for a normal tyre and whether the wheel can be machined to 'correct' the bead seat.

My Honda Odyssey had the PAX system, I de-PAX’d it with parts from my old 2007 Honda Odyssey with bad A/C and blown motor mounts which would’ve cost more to repair than the accursed PAX that replaced it. The Honda PAX wheels had a different inner and outer rim diameter so couldn’t be dePAX’d without replacing the rims. Also stole the spare tire and numerous trim pieces and still sold the carcass for a $900. 😃

Those Michelin run flat system was a pain when we had them in my family’s Honda Odyssey. The tires did not last long, balancing them was near impossible (my dad is a mechanic), the cost of the tires were crazy (if I remember right about $400 each at the time), and (if I remember right also) you needed to replace the inner plastic ring after some tire changes. We ended up just replacing the wheels and tires with the lower trim Odyssey wheels and tires that used normal tires. We put in 250k miles on it until it was rear ended by a u-Haul truck. That generation Odyssey had a lot of problems for some reason the tires, engine mounts ($500 each) only lasting 50-75k, and ECU glitches

True story. There was a guy in England rebuilt a Vanden Plas 1300 using a RR radiator and the accompanying Spirit Of Ecstasy. The factory heard of this and he received a notice from the factory telling him to remove the RR parts from his (very nicely rebuilt) VP car. RR said that car owners were granted the right to have the radiator etc on their RR cars as part of the purchase price, but that those components remained the property of Rolls Royce.... and that in this case, it was felt that his car showed RR in a bad light, therefore they rescinded his right to own those parts. But that was a very, very long time ago. When RR was still the pride of the English motor car industry. Could be just one of the folklore tales that circulate about the marque. Another favourite of mine is the one about the RR owner who was touring in somewhere "foreign" like Spain when his RR broke a half-shaft on a bit of rather uncivilised track. You may have heard it: if not your Wizard most likely has, so I'll stop here. (But feel free to request the rest if he's not heard it either.)

You gotta watch those British cars. I had a Jaguar XJ6 come in to me one time, it had a dead electronic ignition control module (ICM) This was a part that had to come from the dealership, they wanted around $400, and said it would take 2 or 3 weeks, and that I would have do go down there and pay for it up front. Well, being frustrated with the thing, and very confident in my diagnosis, I decide to crack the module ("LUCAS") open with a hammer and a chisel, as it was glued together solid, and not intended to be serviced at all. All that was inside that thing was a $60 AC Delco ICM, and a big resistor! I already had one of those sitting around in my shop, and had the car fixed that day, and charged the owner only one hour labor. No wonder it was glued together from the factory........

Gotta say, I prefer the two-tone matte gray look on the hood. Looks more "refined" that way. (Of course, when I first saw it in your intro video, I thought it came that way, and that part of the hood was brushed aluminum while the outer parts were polished+painted of the same piece of metal.)

I feel bad about the Ferrari ordeal as well but I did advised him to sell it when he had it running perfect. Old Ferraris are always at risk for catching on fire sadly.

A heat gun would have done a better job on the car hood.

The window regulators are a common design used on many cars, European and otherwise. Plastic guides, gears and wires are common enough failure items - you can find rebuild components for reasonable money - which is what many BMW & other owners do. Your fellow in AZ simply knows what common parts are needed for the Rolls version.

I bought the cheapest 2009 Scion Tc for 300$. Has 173600 miles and i rebuilt the engine year ago under Toyotas Piston ring recall. Besides a big dent in the fender I like my cheap buy

captain derp the irony in that is that even though it’s probably the safest car on the road and would be a dope Uber that anyone would love to get a ride in- it’s too old in a lot of areas to qualify as an Uber. I dunno about Kansas though, he might be good, or he could just register s newer car and take the roller.

1 vote for the wrap. It added a bit of contrast the car needed.

To take off the wrap, pour hot water on it to get the adhesive to soften. Seen it done and it works. Also seen a heat gun used at a low setting, but you seriously risk burning the paint.
