No one's life is perfect, but I look to yours for inspiration. I'm seven years younger than you, so in a way your videos are a peek at what's to come. Thanks for showing the bad with the good, and for being true to yourself. It helps me a lot. Love, Becca

The glass roof conservatory is stunning don't get rid!! This is the one bright room and adds something different to the house! You will love it over time trust me:) sometimes it's okay to not fill all your wall space esp spaces facing windows (protect against the light and also just keeping areas open) Obsessed with the house reminds me of various family members of mine and also a lot of houses in the east /north(ish)east of England. So country woodland, cozy but fresh, historical, nostalgic.

So lovely to see the progress you’ve made! I struggle with knowing what is my taste and what is a trend. I have to evaluate whether I want something only for it to be seen by others, or if I want it just because I like it. Also, I try go for things that I have liked for a long time. I never just buy something as soon as I see it. I always wait a little while until I can trust that it’s not a super temporary desire.

Always love both your honesty when it comes to everyday life. I live in a rented 50 shades of grey flat 😂 have done my best to bring in some colour without spending money on it I'll never get back. Its the Millennial version of beige or terracotta trend of the 90s and 2000s.

Another piano tip from me, if little Pan does want to learn and possibly starts having lessons at some point, you're gonna wanna get an adjustable piano stool as if he's 5 years old and just learning that still is gonna need to be quite high for him to be at the right height and have the correct posture for playing but ya know as he grows, the stool will need lowering as he gets taller. I breathed a sigh of relief when you said the piano was in the conservatory temporarily too 😅. It will deffo be fine in there for now as it is damp and things, however if we get any more intense heat waves I'd deffo move it out of there, extreme temperatures aren't good for the tension of the strings coz of expansion and contraction and stuff (and the wood too) so it'll be even more fucked in terms of tuning 😅! "If of thy mortal goods thou art bereft, and from thy slender store two loaves alone to thee are left, sell one and with the dole, buy hyacinths to feed thy soul"...by Saadi, a Persian poet I'm checking out the mattress...I'm in the states but I'm looking so hard for a mattress. Fingers crossed!❤

The amount I learned from these videos is mad! It's a lot, but I'm trying to keep notes of things to consider at least checking in a home such as electric, lighting, fir hazards, insulation, etc. Would Thomas be open to making a sit-down video overview of things you did and didn't know were important when all is done? ❤

You'd have to get your piano tuned fairly regularly to begin with too as it's not been played for a while it will be very out of tune and will fall back out of tune very quickly until the strings adjust to sitting at the right tension point for it to be in tune - I've played since I was 11 and we have an antique piano too. Unfortunately I'm in Scotland so I can't recommend you any locals even though I know probably every piano tuner there is in my area 😅😂 X

Your dad didn’t come with two sheds? Though my dads sheds are overflow from the garage. Plus a tip for Thomas, the shed is great for hiding flowers for Mel for anniversaries from you, and Mother’s Day from the kids. Only time I’m allowed in my dads shed without him assuming I’m doing gardening for money

I’ve always wondered why not hang the tv over the fireplace in the living room? When your home is finally finished & you watch the old video’s when the kiddo are older the videos will be priceless!
@melaniemurphyofficial
Жыл бұрын
I touched on that in the living room reno video! Your TV is supposed to be eye level according to experts, I find it so hard to focus on a TV hung up high, and also we just felt it would ruin the look and feel of having real, beautiful stone in the room! Didn’t want to ruin it with a mount! Then there’s the issue of heat rising up from the stove (it’s a real functional wood burner) which seems like it could actually be dangerous with electrics? But goodness yeah I am SO glad we will be able to watch the whole process of doing up this house when we’re old and grey 🥹❤️

Pity about the the wardrobes but if you are hanging onto and up cycling the remaining units try something called ESP Owatrol. It is a primer great for melamine/veneer- creates a chemical bond that the paint will stick to and then spray the doors/use a foam roller for a good finish. If that sounds like too much work, there are companies that will make doors for the carcasses e.g. Custom Fronts but not sure about shipping to ROI. More of a hassle but less work than a big paint job. Flip the bowed shelves and put a piece of aluminium channel on the back to stop any future bowing. Not worth replacing for 1 degree! The Vitruvian man is a wonderful analogy for how busy you get during a reno! Also- hope you get the sign for the bathroom ( when Etsy remove the hold on the sellers’ earnings) - I assume it is because you also love The Labryinth and poor Hoggle getting stuck in the Bog of Eternal Stench?!
