As a true beginner in every sense when it comes to the bass, I appreciate this video so much. Thank you for making a very in depth video covering so many effects, while also detailing what those effects can do and playing recognizable riffs that may have been created using said effects. After recently playing around with a modelling amp at work, albeit a guitar amp, I found myself very intrigued by some of the sounds but had no idea what any of them truly meant and and also didn't know where to begin. Turns out it was watching this video. Cheers

Check out the Valeton GP200, it's awesome. I'm setting one up for live use. Has all of these effects, chain management, looper, and drum tracks. $300 and you don't have to buy all these different pedals.

My compliments. January ‘22 was when I discovered it. I wish I had had this 15 years ago, when I bought my first bass. 😁😁😁 I would suggest, if you have not done it already, one more episode per pedal group. Five minutes of exploring would do wonders. Thanks again!

Fantastic guide. I’ve been playing bass for almost 30 years, and never dived into pedals much. My first pedal is a pre-amp style with eq, drive, and compression. This helps me understand how to expand my sounds given what I like, without having to play/buy a $1000 worth of pedals. I’ll gladly add all I can to this video to get it in front of other’s eyes.

Just saw this today ... I want to thank you for this -- I think this is a fantastic introduction to effects for bass players. I didn't use effects for many years but have started to incorporate them more recently into my playing, and this has helped a lot. I have been using a multi-effects unit for a bit to try and figure things out, but I will trade it in soon and start getting individual ones. Many thanks!

After seeing a video with Billy Sheehan recommending compressing bass, I immediately picked up a good compressor/limiter that I always use. I love it. I also practice through a TECH 21 VT Bass Deluxe Sans Amp, and run it into a pedalboard for mixing and playing along with songs with headphones for practice so I don't drive everyone crazy. I can also put its main output into the Effects In of my amp for a predictable tone, bypassing the amp tone circuitry. It also has an XLR Out that I can plug right into my mixer (or the main mixer if performing). Those 2 pedals are the main ways I control my sound. The Sand Amp is very touchy, so I move the controls very little at a time.

For beginners you are absolutely best off with something like a zoom or boss multi effects pedal. They can be had very cheap used and sound pretty good imo. This way you can stick your toes into a little bit of everything. They usually come with a headphone jack as well for silent practice as well as a looper and some rhythm tracks. Buying individual pedals gets pretty pricey pretty quickly. Then you also have to worry about batteries, power supplies, daisy chain cables etc. Once you have some experience finding which pedals you need, then you can start building your board.
