A great era, a very experimental few years in all genres of dance. Many great tracks - edge of darkness' come together always sounded epic when dropped in any mix.. so i knew this was worth a watch soon as i saw the first few seconds ! there is so many little variations to the old school sound & lots of the quality tracks still sound good today. Most deserve a top quality repress ! I preferred the sub bass with breakbeats, the 4x4 sped up too much which was weird bcos i loved the harder 4x4 techno but i didnt like where 'hardcore' went with it. It wasnt a happy place for me.. Music from the 90's has a special key for my mind i just cant find anywhere else ! The atmosphere some clubs had was unique & a big thanks to the distributors & dj's from those days !

So I'm thinking about trying to make my own music after 30yrs of DJing. What software would you recommend for an absolute beginner who understands track structure but zero music knowledge?😊
@TimCant
Жыл бұрын
If you already have a Mac I suggest GarageBand which is free and designed to be beginner-friendly. If not, then I definitely recommend getting the demo version of Ableton Live which is the software I used in this video. The demo version lasts for 90s days (so if you hate it immediately you haven't wasted any cash!) and if you do decide to take the plunge there are versions at various price points. and you get a discount if you decide to upgrade. If you decide you'll like some one-on-one tuition help hit me up as well of course ;) bit.ly/TimCantContact

@TimCant
Жыл бұрын
Positive Energy pt 2 was a vocal off Carl Cox Concept - The Planet of Love, the Amen off DJ Solo - Darkage (you can still hear the subs underneath! 🙈) and piano and strings off a Korg M1. I “programmed” the string patch by mucking around with parameters at random as I had no clue what I was doing, but I think I basically put a low pass filter opening up over a one of the string waves. I could never make a tune like the early Vibena tracks again as loads of it was random button mashing 😆

Hi Tim. I first hear your music on liquid brilliants when I checked their catalogue after I released a few eps on that label, many years later I watched your first video without realising it was the same person, but now I realise and it's a pleasant surprise. One of the tunes I really like from you (apart from the one in LB "Just Can't give you up") is the one you released in Spearheads' "Heaven" which by the way is exceptional. After I watched this video I can see there is a bit of jungle techno influences in the 4x4 jungle beat, more jazzy like in Nookie's "only you". Anyway, it doesn't make sense to you but is nice to see you are doing these videos, I found them very interesting and educational. I hope you keep doing more videos like this!

Hi Lucas, thanks so much for checking my music out and big up to another Liquid Brilliants artist! 😀 You know I hadn’t thought of the thematic similarity between “Heaven” and “Only You” until just now. At the time I was listening to a lot of future bass (especially the Tourist album “U” kzitem.info/news/bejne/0aaXl3Z4s6iEln4 which is well worth a listen), and was interested in fusing it with hardcore-style sounds. I seem to remember I started the track at 160BPM or so and then ended up speeding up to DnB tempo. Thanks so much for taking the time to write and I hope to hear more Playful tracks! 😊
