Strings are very nice.. Agreed, very close to human sing... I play sax, flute, trumpet.. But all the time I wanted play strings.. I started violin.. This instrument is significantly difficult, even then trumpet, where right embouchure and breathing learn years.. But still bearable.. For me, cello, has more pleasant then violin.. Violin is too high.. But more practical to carry.. So I will start violin..

I've been fiddling by ear for 5 years, but never got dependent on stickers. Easiest way for me to learn left hand was to play mandolin (same tuning as violin, ergo, same LH positions---even double stops) for 10 years. Before I took up mando, I played guitar for 50 years (good background for chords, i.e. harmony). But of all these methods, the most important thing is to memorise the piano (or electronic) keyboard. If you do not know anything else about music, THAT is the most important thing to know before attempting ANY instrument, other than percussion. That is why a major or minor in music ALWAYS requires at least one semester of piano.

This video is very helpful, thank you so much. I come from a long line of musicians, and they can tell you how to play any instrument, but they don't know the first thing about the violin. So you can imagine I am stuck learning how to play the violin by myself. Problem is, i am used to playing an electric bass, which has frets that allow me to know what key I am in, but the violin does not. So I tried playing by ear, which is nice and all and I suppose I am not the worst at it, but its still very very hard to learn to play and to keep myself in tuned BUT THIS VIDEO helped me out so much with that THABK YOU SEVER SO MUCH!!! NOW, I can play thr violin and stay in key without having to fiddle with each note just to find the right one. XD 💖 If I met you in person, I am not one for much personal contact, I would still give you a giant hug. I know it might not seem like a big deal to others, but to me its a huge deal. :) Otay, I'm shutting up, now. XD

I think the use of tape is just a matter of what you want to do with the violin. If you want to play casually, finger tapes are fantastic as it saves a lot of time. However if you want to train your ear and play the violin as good as you can , then probably training without any tape is much better

How has the young lady in the clip learned to play `Marianne` so beaytifully ? With this guide? Can she play it blindfolded/ eyes closed ? If the G broke can she play it equally well in G starting on the A string instead?Or if D broke in D starting on E? Or could she play along with her teacher or colleague by staying in C an octave higher by starting with open E string ?[ instead of 1st on D] thereby cross checking tuning in a group situation and keeping the music flowing and in tune?

I don’t know if the problem is the strings on my violin, but I have a difficulty here I am using a chromatic tuner to see the perfect pitch of each note. So the first position first finger is: (from g to e string): A, E, B, F# When I put the finger in the G and D string to make an A and E (first finger) is a little unequal, To make B in A string I have to climb the finger a little and for F# I have to put the finger way lower compared to B in the A string. So it’s not a horizontal line like the tapes you are putting. It’s a little zig zag I have for the first finger. Now for second finger in first position, I see a way larger difference: My middle finger when playing G in the E string is very close to the F# first finger It doesn’t happen with other strings Is this normal? Ps: my violin is perfectly in tune

Frets don't just mark - they determine absoluty. Where you have no frets you can modulate pitch by moving your finger thereby producing vibrato. Where there are frets it doesn't work this way. Violin without vibrato rarely sounds good. Heavy usage of vibrato and other pitch bending technics are the reason for fretless string instruments.
