The journey of contributing to an open-source project can be both challenging and rewarding. This talk takes you through our path to becoming contributors to Specmatic, an open-source project. We'll cover our journey from understanding the project's objectives and reading its documentation to cloning the repository, compiling the code, running tests, finding and fixing issues, and raising a pull request.
We were able to find and fix the following issues:
- Some of the tests did not work on Windows, so made fixes to ensure they ran across all OSs
- Enhanced Github actions to run the build on Windows as well.
- There were sections in the build file, which forced Java 17, while that was not really required. So we cleaned up this across all the 4 build files.
Through our story, we hope to inspire and empower others to embark on their own open-source journeys, providing practical advice and insights for navigating the world of open-source software.
