I disagree about the band logo thing, you look at a band like SPEED and almost all their stuff is just the band name and it looks awesome, I think the difference is what genre your band is in, cause hardcore guys and gal's love reping the bands they like, I can see value in what you said in this video but I also think it depends on what kind of band you are, like I wouldn't recommend doing a band logo shirt if the logo isn't anything but amazing

Hi, I love your channel! Very honest, and you give realistic advice. Am surprised that you guys are so young with so much of wisdom! I have a question about merch and music video. It would be great if you can help me! I'm new to music and I am still forming a band. I would like to know since I am the vocalist, and you know most of the attention will be centered on the vocalist, should I be fully in charge of the merch and music video? Should I bear the cost of making them alone instead of sharing it with bandmates? Or should we divide it equally or having me pay the biggest portion like 70%? I have a band member right now and we do discuss about these things and come up with some good ideas. I was too scared to ask him questions on who handle the costs. Hope you can help! Thank you!!

i’m the drummer in my band and everything is split equally. all the money we make from merch gets split in half. half goes to making more merch and the other half is in band funds for gear we might need for shows and such

How big should the band be before they start selling merchandise? There are many videos encouraging bands to sell merchandise and we sell t-shirts, custom art, and CDs, but it's still requires a large investment of time and energy for very little return. I spend way more time preparing to sell merch than we do actually selling merch.

I think the question is: do you have people who want a t-shirt with your design on? If yes, you're ready for merch! If no, you need to build you audience to the point people are so invested that they want merch!

@@TheMusicLab Thank you so much for taking time to reply. We've sold 1000 seat as our record. Typically, we sell under 1000 consistently. My merch management eats up a lot of time, so I've been doing it as a necessary marketing expense. We do make a profit on the t-shirts and CDs we sell but it's not noteworthy. I'm going to start doing meet and greet by the merch table to see if that helps. We,re also added a sign with out PayPal and Venmo address as a payment option, for those that don't carry cash. Thanks again, Gray

Then def sell merch but I would go with Print on Demand, so you only have to worry about coming up with good designs and the POD company takes care of the rest
