I love the messages of empathy and compassion in Keillor's stories. I believe they apply everywhere, because regardless of culture, human nature and its frailty is everywhere.

I like Garrison as Sherlock Holmes. That was intriguing and refreshing.

I LOVE stories like this..... dark and hyper real.... not the kind of story that would have been released on a collection ..... but deserved to be ! ! ! : o )

I almost got caught a lot of times, but I also got caught but never knew about it, because some folks are just that kind to never mention it.... My Dad was like that, so forgiving and kind to me....

So who got the sock full of money?

I think the police got it. The principal suspected Lyle and they found it and took it.

His wife found the money, and she knew that he could have only taken it from his job so she contacted the principal, who probably never would have noticed the missing money had she not let him know about it, but then she made a deal with the principal to give all the money back And also teach her husband a lesson about almost getting caught and how hard that can be, even if he didn't actually legally get caught.
