the 1:1 setting gets you very close, but may not be exact. I wanted a pattern where dimensions from outside of the lines (i.e cutting to leave the lines and then sanding to the lines) would give me the same distance using the same caliper that I made my original measurements with. So, I made 1 print with the 1:1 scale and measured the printout and found that the printout was slightly smaller than the actual measurement I wanted. I then calculated a new ratio and set my print settings to be 1.03:1 (printer:sketchup). That resulted in a printout that was nearly dead on with the same precision I had used to make my original measurements for the design. I think that slight offset is going to be different based on a number of factors, including the printer itself and whatever you used to make measurements for your design. Just remember that if the printout is smaller than what you want, the number greater than 1 goes in the scale setting for the printer and if the print out is bigger than what you want, the bigger number goes in the scale setting for SketchUp.

Interesting. I haven't noticed that. Maybe I didn't measure as precisely as you or maybe my printer/computer combination happens to work a smidge better with Sketchup. Good info either way.

Thanks for sharing. Nice to have full scale print really. I might have some additional tips for this tutorial. I experienced that the SketchUp takes care of the main program windows size in the screen while printing. For eliminating the empty pages and better page management, I suggest the followings; 1- First of all go to printer properties and select paper size and orientation. Select best orientation to fit your model. Return to the main SketchUp window. 2- Size SketchUp main program window just to fit the model that is to be printed in scale. So that there is minimal empty space around the model in SketchUp window background. This might require some zooming, sizing again etc. When it is done open print preview dialog. 3- In Print Preview window, do not select "Use model extents". The rest is as in this tutorial (Fit to page: No, Scale : 1 to 1 etc.) Observe "Tiled Sheet Print Range" It should show min. number of page that the model to be printed in full scale. If not, return to model window and then try to minimize the empty spaces around the model in the main SketchUp Window. 4- Click on OK button and see the preview. This procedure works for me every time and I hope you can eliminate the empty pages by this way and get better prints. Best wishes.

Not sure if it has been mention but the reason it printed 2 pages was because you had so much blank space around the model, if you adjust the window size of sketchup, like the size of the screen to tightly fit your model it would have used the 4 pages!

In case anyone is interested I found a way to get rid of all the extra print pages. Simply resize the entire Sketchup program so that the only thing showing on the view screen is what you want to print. It's kind of weird but it actually works. You need to resize the whole program viewing area. But it will still print 1:1 if you have that set as your scale. By doing this I was able to print my drawing out using only two pages of paper which is exactly what my drawing needed. If I don't resize the Sketch program it wants to print out 10 pages with 8 of them blank. So resizing the entire program in Windows seems to be the trick. You need to resize it so that only what you want to print is in the view area.
@Mystic0Dreamer
7 жыл бұрын
I just noticed that you can also do this by leaving Sketchup full size and simply expanding information windows until you've squeezed the viewing area down to the size you want it. Either way seems to work. Evidently Sketchup prints whatever you can actually see on the screen, including blank space. Fortunately this has nothing to do with the scale it prints out, so if you have it set to 1:1 scale it will print the right size. The only difference is that you don't get a lot of extra blank pages on the print out. By the way, thanks for posting this video, it helped me a lot. I didn't know how to print out 1:1 until I watched this video.

To help not to print all the blank pages, also make sure you click "zoom extents" under the camera tab. Its printing "what it sees" and if you have a lot of blank space around the model it will include that in the print job.

Thanks for the video, it's nice to know it's not just me that has had this problem! Looking around I have found that Sketchup have their own video here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/uW9jv2uhhnipn20 which explains why the problem occurs and how to work around it. The Sketchup video has a nice trick which involves drawing a rectangle the size of a sheet of paper and fitting the drawing into that before printing. In your case you might need to use a rectangle the size of 4 sheets of paper to fit your drawing into. Once the drawing is inside the rectangle you need to zoom in and/or adjust the size of the Sketchup window so that the drawing is visible but the rectangle is completely outside the visible area. The purpose of the rectangle is just to help you get a good enough width/height ratio for the window. It can still be difficult if the edges of the drawing get close to the rectangle, but the printing works just fine every time for me now.
