You are definitely a sucker for punishment, just as well you had your Superman outfit on for the day (lol). You have to love the British countryside coming into Spring. Your filming makes me feel homesick every time! 👍😊

Incredible scenery on a mammoth ride! The hills looked scary on camera, so God knows what they looked like on the bike? Epic effort Darren. Pat yourself on the back. 👏

Thanks Steve, I’m glad you enjoyed it, as I had a great day out, one I’ll remember for a long time. It was one ride I had waited so long to do and I didn’t know how I could top, and then Wales happened! Wait until you see that one!!

Well done Darren that's a great challenge for yourself. You can take as much footage as you want. I think it's great to see the true countryside in parts of the country that I wouldn't normally see. Yep another great video ☺

Well done Darren absolutely epic. You went pass my old house on Haytor! Have been cycling across Dartmoor for many years so know exactly what you achieved. Incredible and a truly amazing feat and brilliant video as always. Cheers Steve W

Thanks Steve, what a great place to have called your back garden! Although you wouldn’t have to have gone too far to rack up some climbing meters.

Cracking video Darren. As I said before Dartmoor is a special place. Haven’t done all those climbs before but Haytor and Widdecombe I have done and both tough for me! Thanks for sharing

Thanks Nigel, I found Widecombe the toughest, but it was right at the end. Dartmeet was the one the scared me the most having driven down it on holiday last year. But it actually wasn’t as bad as I’d feared. You’re right though, it’s a special place and I will be back to explore some more at some point.

Absolutely awesome, superb climbing - and what a lovely day you had for it (maybe a bit less windy would have been nice!). Noakesy country that! Nice that you did the Drakes Trail, that Gem bridge is lovely (I think you did that last summer too, and a pootle round “my” reservoir!)

Thanks Mate, it was an enjoyable day out and very rewarding. The reservoir brought back memories my holiday there last summer, so I just had to go back and cycle around it. I do like a climb, and I’m definitely finding my climbing legs, as I’ve done another 2500m of climbing in Wales this weekend and it was a lot easier. Which is good news for my summer plans 🤫 🏔 🇨🇭

Come on Darren, you know you can pretty much double the elevation Komoot says 😂😂 Lovely area but we've never ridden there. Well done 👍

It’s odd, as there doesn’t ever appear to be any consistency with the elevation Komoot says and reality. I used to think it was about 300m out, but I’ve had rides where it’s nearly 800m out. It’s part of the fun with the mystery of what it’ll end up. 😂

Thanks Kevin, I did really enjoy all of them, although going up Widecombe couldn’t end soon enough! I’m glad I had the good weather, as the last time I planned this ride, a storm hit, and I ended up going to Wales. You have some epic scenery on your doorstep though.

I thought it was absolutely amazing until I rode in the Welsh Mountains this weekend. But Wales is on another level. But Dartmoor is still a special place. I will definitely back at some point to explore a few more of the roads and of course Newbridge hill still needs to be completed.

Only ridden in Dartmoor once. Hilly as (and I’m from Wales). It’s the only place I’ve seen cyclists disk rotors glowing red from having to brake all the way down a descent. Another odd phenomenon is the smell at the base of many a hill from the car brakes that also have to brake for the entirety of the descent
@DarrenPhillips
2 жыл бұрын
I know that smell well! The hills in Dartmoor are steep and tough on the legs as well as the cars brakes. But I’ve just been to Wales this weekend and the Mountains are far nicer to climb, even if they are higher and longer. Although I did get that whiff from an Asda delivery driver on his way down Bryn Du. The other thing they have in common is the stunning scenery and I think Wales 🏴 wins it. I’m just glad I’ve been able to explore both. Thanks for watching.
