@hughshepherd6596 Like becoming a seasoned sailor, boat building sense is hard earned with trial, error over years, but ultimately: by d o I n g. If you wait for expertise before starting anything you'll live your life in theory rather than practice. A good number with an amazing accumulation of boat building sense have done nothing with it but apply in daydreams or stuck on the pier. I've personally tiptoed both lines... militant perfectionism, and fly by the seat of my pants. Somewhere in there is a happy balance, but I'll say- my best lessons have come by way of my F ups. Mark will be on a tropical anchor while many are sitting, dreaming... waiting for the perfect time, the perfect boat that never arrives. Respect the ocean, stay humble, learn learn learn, take only carefully calculated risks, but for F sakes, get going. Life is short.

Your Parents are amazing. Well done all, galley looks great and creating a helm from nothing, but I cant help thinking that the wheel should be larger, but more importantly that it should be higher. You should be able to stand up comfortably to use it, particularly as you navigate in and out of tight spots when you will need 360' vision. I'm sure, as usual, you will work out what's best for you.

I too am of the opinion that your wheel is too small for anything but calm conditions. A quick and simple fix would be to attach a whipstaff to it. Basically a vertical tiller that can quickly be attached to the wheel when required to give another two or so feet of leverage. The existing spokes could act as the mounting points so the staff can be clipped on at any desired angle

Tip when working over water try hanging a plastic bag underneath where you're fiddling about trying to get bits in or on .. at least there's a chance it will end up in the bag 😂 and not lost in Davy Jones's tools and parts locker. 😉 If the Dynemas been dry and out of direct sunlight it should be fine Mark it can spend years in the rigging and full elements and still be as strong as SSWire.

The boat is coming along nicely. Files get damaged with a single dragging backward motion across the teeth. Most files are pushed forward. The cutting edge cuts into the material. When the cutting edge is dragged back across the work surface the cutting edge folds over. The when the file is pushed forward the cutting edge is no longer sharp but instead flattened. You can easily see this folding of the cutting surface. Look at the file surface and if you see any shine or reflection of light the file teeth have been damaged. See the difference over the length of the file surface. On the other hand a slowly ground old file makes a nice knife. Keep up the good work. Your parents are great by the way.
