History Bits: Shuinianhe ,the Old Mill Road | Chengdu History.
In Chinese, this is 蜀都大道水碾河路, so the shuinianhe road section of ShuDu Avenue in east Chengdu. It was named after a local mill that was located on a river that ran up north, connecting a local temple called 龙潭寺 (Longtan Temple). It was an important route, an artery for travel, and the mill was also an important place for the local people, so the local government decided to commemorate it by naming the road after this old road and mill, because 水碾 (shuinian) means "watermill" - a water-powered mill for grinding grain.
The road's important because it connects so many important places here in modern Chengdu like Chunxi Road, Tianfu Square, and more!
