This documentary follows the story of a Black-owned family farm through multiple decades and generations. The farm has a will to survive... Hear why the farmers started to farm and why they continue to this day.
Although they are not often highlighted, there are numerous Black farmers and cattlemen that have been farming for generations, adding to the tapestry of American farm life. This documentary looks at a Black generational farm and how it operates with other Black generational farmers in Southern Arkansas.
The youngest cattle rancher (beef farmer) featured is still in high school taking agricultural classes. He is looking forward to a future in agriculture, including studying agriculture at Texas A&M, the University of Arkansas, and Louisiana Tech University.
In 1920, there were more than 925,000 Black farmers in the United States; by 2017, there were fewer than 46,000, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This documentary highlights Black farmers and ranchers who are committed to continuing their families' farming culture and heritage.
The Billing Family Farm 's original owner and current owners are members of the Arkansas Cattlemen Association. The farm raises Angus and Hereford cattle crosses.
