Bud Light is still not doing great. Sales for this once dominant brand are down over 30%. They’ve lost billions of dollars! The conflagration kicked off by Kid Rock’s semi-auto outrage over something that no civilized adult should be outraged over has had a major impact. In beer news, we have an update on Anchor Brewing and it’s surprisingly positive for a change. Apparently, one of the bidders is a venture capital group that includes some interesting names - names that should be familiar to any fans of craft beer (and anyone who has listened to the Brew Skies Happy Hour Podcast).
In wine news, we have an update on the chicanery in Napa Valley that caused the FBI to subpoena over 40 people last year. Much to Mike’s chagrin, it has nothing to do with “MILF Mountain.” But it does involve the suicide of a winery CEO and “eco-terrorists.”
In spirits news, profits at spirits companies are down and it looks like it’s going to be a while until growth returns. And the bad news? It looks like the only path to growth in the short to medium term is RTD's.
