I remember my dad and I going to the Aud for games. That team could have been great. Dantley, Ernie D, McAdoo, John Shumate, Randy Smith and they even had Moses Malone and then traded him away for 2 draft picks. Terrible what happened to that franchise.

The Buffalo Braves did have solid attendance through most of their existence in Buffalo--the problem was that they couldn't get many good dates to play in the old Aud-the Sabres and Canisius college had the pick of all the prime days of the week and the Braves whatever was left. Buffalo simply couldn't afford to build a separate arena for a basketball team and hence the move to San Diego and ultimately Los Angeles as the now Clippers

The NBA SCREWED US out of the BRAVES and MLB SCREWED US out of having the BISONS in the Major Leagues. 😠😠😡😡😡😡😡😡 PISSES ME OFF. Buffalo is the BEST city in New York State BESIDES New York City ITSELF. PERSONALLY I think us BUFFALONIANS are BETTER than THOSE in New York City but STILL WE DESERVE ALL 4 MAJOR SPORTS.

You left out Bob Kauffman who made the Allstar team 3 years in a row during the early years and with other players hit the street advertising for the team to try to get fans to attend the games, and these guys got no endorsements from basketball shoes or anything like they have today. They met with the fans continually for no extra pay to help build the franchise. Kauffman became injured the fourth year with a hip displacement or he would have been right there with him. I know because he married my sister when I was 12 years old and at eighteen he introduced me to Ernie D. who took me for a ride in his new Ferrari. Later Kauffman went to the Hawks but became sidelined with the injury and gravitated to assistant coach. Later he managed and coached the Detroit Pistons. At 6' 8 he posted the greats including a young Lew Alcindor[Jabbar}, Wilt Chamberlain, Nate Thurmond and others. F or you to not mention him makes me think you were never a braves fan and did not grow up in Buffalo.

They could have if they would have been supported better. They had a great team in the mid 70s and dismantled it slowly. Bad ownership. It was always going to be one or the other either way. The Braves really needed their own arena and that wasn’t happening.

Any team owned by John Y. Brown will sink. He managed to ruin the ABA champion Kentucky Colonels, falter with the Braves, then turn the legendary Boston Celtics into also-rans -- all in four years. That was after lowering the quality of Kentucky Fried Chicken so much that Col. Sanders publicly blasted the product and Brown's methods. John Y. was an incompetent bungler who ruined some of the finest entities, and very quickly. Granted, he was not so bad as Kentucky's governor for a term, but Kentucky state government had been so badly mismanaged, that what was good governance there would be poor in most places.
