I just saw the monument today on my first full day in Edinburgh. I watched a lot of your videos before I came here and I’ve enjoyed feeling like a local. I knew my way around town, recognized landmarks and just felt quite at home. Your city is beautiful and I’m having a wonderful time.

I'm off topic, but was wondering if you might consider pointing out public toilets in a future video? It's one of those practical things that might be helpful. Thanks for all your hard work.

Loved the video, as always! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and love of your beautiful city! I cannot wait to visit (5 and a half months from now!! :) I didn't know that the monument was still closed and as of now, you can't go up inside it. Thank you for that info. I was trying to decide if I should do it or not.... I was torn because I want to but I'm thinking I might get a bit clausterphobic at the top....

According to the HMdb (Historical Marker Database) the monument was completed in 1844 but the official opening was delayed until 1846 to allow for completion of the sculpture of Scott and his dog, that probably explains the 1846 date on the restoration plaque.

The writer, José Martí in Havana, Cuba. It's 109 meters tall. Not as interesting looking as the Scott monument for sure. John Steell sculpted that and several other monuments around Edinburgh. This is why I love your videos...I learn so much! I Google a lot after. Lol

An amazing piece of architecture and Skills of both the designer And the craftsman. Stunning. The monument to Jose Marti is bigger but has as much character as the building across the street from the Scott Monument.

The view from the top is fantastic! Well worth the few pounds in my opinion. Hope they reopen it to the public.

Has a grand cleaning of the stone, ever been considered? I'd love to see the 'original' color 😊 Thx for the tour, Tony hello from Denmark 🌸🌱

The stone is full of shale oil so every time it’s cleaned the oil comes out again

1844 is the year the designer George Kemp (my ancestor) drowned in a canal, before the monument was finished that same year, and before it was finally dedicated in 1846.

Thank you for the video! I was in Edinburgh a couple years ago & saw this monument. It is in fact very beautiful & one of my favorites, if you can choose that is. The entire place is beautiful. Do you think you will be doing a video the Fire Festival coming up? I got to see & experience it in 2018. It was amazing!. The drums vibrating off the buildings took me to another time. (Metaphorically lol ) It was so magical. Either way I always enjoy what you share. Thank you.

@@tomsimpson4518 thank you:) I'm originally from Edinburgh but due to health issues I want to visit at least one last time! I thought I might park just outside the city and get public transport. Ie Curie, Balerno , Haymarket area.
