In the US mid-50s and late 70s modulus sockets were used but outlawed. They use a vertical gem box in which you could use a combination outlet switch and night light. Some reasons for outlawing them was space constraints. To many devices was against the code and there was no room to add a grounding grounding hole. Today you choose the device with that combination.

This reminds me a lot of the USA's "Despard" system ( which was based on, or was the basis for the GE Low Voltage modular system ) but also so much better. It's a shame it didn't catch on stateside like it did in Italy!

That's super neat! Those outlets are clearly more versatile than the NA ones, and it's almost disappointing that they are hardly used elsewhere (though that plug design does scare me a bit; seems like it would be pretty easy to shock oneself by accident).

The German Schuko Sockets needs more space. But you can attache 5 wall boxes to a combination. All boxes have a diameter of 67 mm. This 3 places wall pox have the size of a double combination in Germany.

@FrancisLitanofficialJAPINOY can Italian plugs be used on the USA grid ? 110v 60hz?

@@longiusaescius2537 - will not fit ..., only these terrible USA/Japan plugs fit in USA, you need a good(!) quality adapter or build it by your self from USA-plugs + Italian (or German) powerbars ... avoid cheap Death-Dapters on all costs ... Edit: your device must support 110-120V at 60Hz ... you can also use 2x110V (Life (black) + Life (red) ) = 220V instead of neutral
