Doug, that tool and advise is everything. I have learned more from your channel than any other KZitem videos about maintaining and keeping fitted caps in shape. For me, reducing the wrinkles and lack of asymmetry between the crown height, back panel and profiles to ensure a rounded fit is a big challenge with fitted caps, and the tool resolves this. Keep it going.

Can you add structure to older, beaten down hats?
@dreinthe616
11 ай бұрын
If the buckram in the front two panels is really beaten down, then it's difficult to restore the most robust structural part. But some cap fans use spray starch on the crown when they have it on a shaping form like this, to give it a little more stiffness and hold off wrinkling of the back four panels, thanks.

Thanks for the videos, awesome info and tips. I am worried that is more like a problem with the crown. Is not the first cap that I bend.
@dreinthe616
3 жыл бұрын
If you steam it to curve, you can probably manipulate it a bit more on the side that needs it. Unfortunately I’ve had caps where the visor is not centered, or the two front crown panels are attached to the visor at different heights… both of these can really mess up the cap symmetry, so it may just be a bad quality cap.

Do you think the Bullard bump cap and steam can raise/restore the buckram and front panels? I have a Roman Pro from the mid to late 80s that is too sloped, too much of a dad hat look. Would like to have a mid-crown shape if possible, since it's a 1950s Senators replica. Size-wise, it fits great - no stretching needed. Bought it as new deadstock, so mint condition other than being somewhat flattened (guess from the way it was stored).
@dreinthe616
3 жыл бұрын
I think all of it depends on the ability of the buckram to hold shape... you could try by heating it with a hairdryer and then pressing from the inside with a towel or t-shirt, just something to deliver the form you want. If it holds after cooling down you might be good, but otherwise there's not a lot of ways to put structure/stiffness back in.

I do have a video comparing a portable garment steamer to a teapot, and several other videos where you can use steam alone for less intensive shaping and wrinkle removal, thx.
