People overcomplicate story so much. Casey's example of a story is literally just 1) what he did before Steve-O's podcast, 2) Steve-O's podcast, 3) what he did after Steve-O's podcast.
@MrWokyman

I saw a great example of this when someone interviewed him. They asked multiple times why he dropped in a bit of music at a particular point, they were seemingly fixated on 'understanding' this, like there was a magic formula to it. Something like that comes down to feel, and intuition. Yes, you could delve into the technicalities of it, but Casey and many others don't work like that.
@melie3054

@@MrWokymanlol I know exactly which interview you’re taking about. That stood out to me too how they were pushing so much into that when reviewing just the intro part of his video so far. But I thought also that the interviewer was just really overly passionate and fangirl-y. I noticed he was like that in another interview of a creator too.

I just discovered Casey, literally from that interview mentioned in the comments. Yes the story structure is that simple. It’s a formula. But saying that’s all it is, nothing more, isn’t correct. Casey is a natural and he struggled to answer those questions because he never even thought about it.

Well done video. Hard to believe it was about 7+ years ago when Casey was doing all his vlogs. I got hooked and watched them all...really wanted to start a channel. I worked on the sequences a bit, and did a couple random vlogs (no planned structure), and realized how much work it was. I recently signed up for his course, waiting for it to start in a week or so. I've started watching several of his old vlogs to be reminded of his style and how much joy they bring watching them. I'd love to bring that to people in my own videos. Anyway, I just stumbled on you with this video and subscribed....great quality and I love the details you put into this. Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Excellent analysis and beautifully shot, guys. Thank you! I’m sure many will find this very useful, even though Casey is now running his own film-making course, as you said. I definitely hope to watch more of yours, despite this. You also got so many examples of Casey’s style in there, like even smaller details, such as his farewell to a person and the accompanying hand gesture. I started making notes to possibly apply these techniques in the near future.

@@tomsodyssey , I will ne happy to see: a) an episode where you go more in depth about the structure of a particular Casey Neistat's video b) how did you made the schemes and analysis of Casey's videos - what do you see, what do you think of and the visual language you use to describe different items... I really am not sure what I need to see because I am a beginner in video creation. My main need is to connect theory woth practice - I know the 3 part structure of storytelling but need to see it in real broken down to smaller bits so I can swallow them easily.

@tomsodyssey
2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Glad you liked it btw! I am going to make a more indepth video about this, but I do suggest reading up on google to really understand it. For me it's something that I didn't understand, until I started to incorporate it more into my videos. Then, it just CLICKED 😅 But generally: ACT 1: you setup what the video is going to be about. For me here: I found a clip, it got me thinking, now I'm going to analyse how Casey makes his videos ACT 2: This is where all the bulk of the video will be. You're doing what you explained in ACT 1. For this video it's showing you I did the analysis, and what stood out to me from casey's filmmaking technique. Here it's also great to add a conflict, which rises the tension people feel while watching the video. It could be something that didn't go the way you wanted it, or something unexpected that messed things up. ACT 3: This is the resolution, meaning bringing everything together that you presented in ACT 1 and we're doing in ACT 2 and now finishing up in ACT 3. For me it's showing the pinacle of Casey's filmmaking (the transitions) which I think is how his filmmaking really ties his story together. Meaning for this video you watched: ACT 1, this is what I wanted to figure out ACT 2, I'm figuring it out ACT 3, This is what is so special. Hope that helps a bit 🙏🏻
