Would be interesting to know the copper-tin-lead ratio. By the way: I thought Bronze is made of copper and tin only. What´s the effect of lead in this alloy?

Do you have a good source for tin at a reasonable price? I watched this video some time ago, but watched it again today and enjoyed it again. Cheers lucky.

I use 97% tin pewter mugs, look on the bottom it will have the tin percentage on good quality mugs. I buy them from junk shops much cheaper than any other source and I am not guessing as to how much tin is in there. Another way you can tell high tin content is to bend the mug, if it creaks buy it.

Many of your videos show that there is a plinth on the bottom of the crucible. Could you tell us how and why you attach them? Thanks
@luckygen1001
2 жыл бұрын
I added a slice of ceramic fiber between the crucible and the plinth so it will separate but what happens is the glaze on the side of the crucible melts, it then runs to the plinth so both are stuck together. It does not bother me so I leave it there.

Was a good video, to the point and a very good result. Interesting about no venting and the method of sloping the mold. was the pattern made on a 3D printer?
@luckygen1001

The pattern was made from plastics and aluminuim I had at home.

Hello there, very informative video's. thank you for sharing. at the end of the video you mention a good ingot and a overheated one. what sort of temperature is too hot for bronze and what sort of atmosphere is undesirable for casting. i have done some bronze casting and this time will be using anthracite. would this present any problems with regard to the correct sort of atmosphere to obtain a good casting?

Unless you have a pyrometer to measure temperature it can be very hard to say how hot to pour bronze at. Slightly oxidizing is the best for bronze. I have never used anthracite to melt bronze.

Wow, I love those moulding boxes. Did you cast them by yourself? Do you think aluminum flasks would be good enough in the long term for Casting iron?
@luckygen1001

Yes I did cast those boxes myself and I have used them for more than twenty years for pouring iron.

im fairly sure you really should also have a vent channel/hole in the opposite side of the fill trace on the mold

What is the purpose of casting it at a slight uphill angle?
@luckygen1001
7 жыл бұрын
It is to form a pool of metal at the bottom so it prevents splashing when filling the mold. Pouring flat or downhill the metal comes into the mold too quickly.
