I am sorry loves that you all have experienced this. I personally have lived in China almost 4 years previously as a black American family with two young children. Having this conversation about ignorance vs racism is important for children of color. As Americans, our parents help us to understand how and why these things might occur. They give us the framework to continue to love ourselves despite encounters while also how to navigate a world that doesn’t look like you while loving yourself. We gave grace in China because it is not coming from the same place. I would have open conversations with my friends when they would ask questions, touch hair, take pictures. I understood the difference between curiosity and ignorance. However, this situation was different. My mother was a spit fire and might have gone and spoken to the mother and shamed her for her teachings in front of the child. China is big on saving face and while it is not your responsibility to educate all; I do believe that you have to become comfortable with these redirections when your children are involved so that they can understand when it is okay to speak up and how to appropriately do so. Also we never want our children to internally someone else’s feelings. Father I can tell someone has said hurtful things to you. Silence becomes acceptance at times. We can teach redirection in love.

I just came across your video, that’s why kids need their fathers in their lives. I love 💕 the way you explained racism. Your kids need you to help them cause as a black man we grow up with racism. Watching from America 🇺🇸 ❤❤❤

I'm seeing beautiful mixed race kids, people are wicked. I was called ugly even by my own relatives, 19 years later they crowned me a Miss, now am the most attractive child in my whole village and every girl wants to dress and act like me. But when someone tells me you are beautiful i don't answer back because that thing is still inside my head .

Thank you so much for sharing your story. It’s heartbreaking how deeply words can impact us, especially when they come from people close to us. I’m so glad to hear that you’ve found your confidence and are now seen for the beauty you always had. What you went through is a reminder that beauty isn't defined by others but by how we feel about ourselves inside. I hope with time, you’ll be able to fully embrace the compliments you deserve. Stay strong and keep shining! 💖

I hope the little boy’s parents see this video and realise how disgusting and unacceptable his behavior was toward your children. It seems like he’s acting out of jealousy because your kids are absolutely beautiful. This kind of behaviour likely reflects what he’s exposed to at home, but it should never be acceptable for a child to see someone different from them whether in appearance, ethnicity, or race and respond with hurtful words. sending lots of love and prayers to you and your family.❤❤

Hey I was called ugly many times when I was young, kids will say dumb things sometimes, look up Lewis hamilton, and all the names they call him, but look at his accomplements today.

Awe, beautiful babies, but why didn't she want to pick up her baby at least once.. and she said "your son," Instead of saying "our son." I hope they also teach their children to love themselves. Also, I wouldn't have that conversation around my children, just to prevent any hurt or words entering their subconscious minds.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I didn’t pick up our youngest because we were on a walk, and we believe it’s important to give our boys the chance to explore and be active. Encouraging our little one to walk helps him build confidence and independence, just like his older brothers. As for saying 'your son,' it was simply a spontaneous way of speaking in the moment. It doesn’t reflect how we view our children or our deep, shared love and commitment to raising them together as a team. I understand your concern about having that conversation around the children. In this case, we chose to address it in front of them because we believe it’s important for them to understand that negative words from others don’t define them. We want to model healthy ways to process hurtful situations and teach our kids how to handle these moments with resilience and strength. We always aim to keep the conversation appropriate for their age, ensuring they feel supported and loved.

@@TheBonesFamNot that my opinion matters, but I think you're right to encourage your toddler to walk as much as possible. Too many younger parents think it's cruel to force children to do anything they don't want to. The result is that children who have never been potty trained are starting school. It's ridiculous. Also, your husband dealt with the bullying situation brilliantly. It's best that your children know early on that some people won't like them because of the colour of their skin, and for them to be o.k. with that. Keep up the good parenting.👍🏿

Are you actually surprised by this in China? This happens in many parts of Asia even in 2024. Expect this happen and learn to deal with it. Some Chines kids are even taught to hate Japanese and Koreans.
