I agree with so many of the adoring comments... I want to try to work with my teacher to sing this lovely song. And hearing you. Beautiful legato and tone. I love you. And they are right (i think) those who commented... That your physical presence, your facial emoting, communicated the words... I want to be Chloris! The voice is solid technique assured And presentation...heart and soul ... Thank you for sharing. And it is great to see a singer smile at appropriate moments As if they cared, as if they were there in the moment... And your smile and innocent eyes emotes the text So beautifully. Listening without watching is equally lovely. But the whole package.... I think I like the whole package . Keep sharing yourself with the world.

I've heard so many renditions of this exquisite song, which for me is THE most beautiful tune I've ever heard. I can, and never will, tire of hearing it. As for this gentlemen's performance, yes, it's an appealing voice and persona. However, I think he gets in the way of the piece: the smile is irresistibly engaging but it's laid on like a spoonful of over thick cream and far too often: also, the hand movements overly intervene - we shouldn't notice them at all and we most certainly do, unfortunately... not only does their display add nothing to the song, they detract from it. I'd have liked him to stand without undue attention to himself and let the sheer, indescribably melodic magic of Hahn's music connect with us thereby the more ably. Personally, I longed for some soft singing here and there and, whilst the tone is always most pleasant, at times I felt he was in danger of making the song a tad operatic. Just let the composer 'speak' for himself via a little less energy from this interpreter. True, it's a declamatory love song but it's a heartfelt expression by the poet, not an ardent plea for her favours. In modern parlance, had I been she I'd have said to this particular young man, "Lay off it, you're too much in my face!" Were the same guy to have adopted a gentler approach I'd have melted if I'd been the female object of his passionate confession. But what do I know? I'm just a bloke.

You have completely forgotten how to enjoy listening to music. Yes it's great to have that wealth of knowledge but at some point you have to make sure you haven't lost touch with the reason we all need music in the first place. He has a tremendous instrument and his connection to the emotion of the piece moved me. What good is that negative of a comment going to do? The arts are in danger we have to build each other up and encourage one another, not let competition and pride tear us down.

David Hughes I actually thought about this a bit. My idea at the time was that it was, because of the text, actually not a very subtle moment for him. The scene I put myself into during the song was one in which I pulled the girl into an alcove during a ball, and, after much anxiety and consternation, finally decide to let her know how I actually feel about her. The text I don't believe merits the subtle approach, and though it is inspired by baroque themes (indeed indicated through the gesturing) we must remember that it is not baroque, but Belle Époque. This is the time of people like Verlaine (a decidedly unsubtle kind of guy). Basically he's saying, if you love me, and I heard you do, then I am happier than a king, because you are better to me than how great people think ambrosia must b., I have seen it and it doesn't compare with the comfort your eyes bring me. If I died, I think I would be alright knowing what feels like. Not a very calculated move imo. This seems more like an expulsion of energy; of emotion.
