I love that you mentioned Victor Davis Hanson! I can't seem to listen to any other podcast but his. As always, your conversation was delightful. Thank you all!

Tanya, I agree with you about Jane Eyre over Wuthering Heights. So glad you are rereading Jane Eyre!

I agree with Tanya that the Sayers article has resulted in a lot of confusion about classical education - especially about what the trivium actually is.

I completely agree! As someone who has dyslexia and went to public school. I am now Classically homeschooling my children! I am the teacher and the student, now. After doing Latin with my kids I finally understand grammar and English words so much better! ❤ Thank you so much for all the work you do!

I didn't have any problem learning English grammar. The most helpful thing was diagramming sentences in 4th grade. Our school used Bob Jones curriculum.

Why Latin over Greek?

Our Latin program begins in the 2nd Grade, and Latin is much easier for young students because the Latin alphabet is the same as the English alphabet. They have just learned to read and are still mastering English, so it makes sense to start with Latin. Also, Latin has fewer irregularities, making it a less complicated grammar to master. Then, after a few years of Latin, Greek is much easier for them, even with the more complex vocabulary. We begin our Greek program in the 7th and 8th grade. By that point, students understand how a language works, so they can better grasp the difficulties of Greek. It's a better use of time to study the more accessible language first.

I was a public school teacher. There is no true curriculum, just learning objectives.
