Positional Asphyxia is *not* about having "room to breathe", but rather refers to suffocation that occurs due to the bodys literal position, such as being in a folded position that causes your airways to bend and restrict airflow, or being unable to physically move something that is blocking their airways. For example, in the 1800s there was a mens fashion accessory that was more or less a fancy white collar made of hard material, it was so hard that if men got too drunk they risked passing out and dying from positional asphyxia as their head droop could (and occasionally did) drive the collar into their throat and cut off airflow resulting in death. They had plenty of room to breath, but they couldn't adjust their posture to save themselves.

Imagine having to keep a dead decaying corpse with you in a tight lighthouse for months simply because if you just dispose of the body into the ocean, others will accuse you of murder. So you have to keep the body there to torture yourself just so you have it as proof of your innocence? I don't even think it mattered if the 2 had a conflict with each other prior because I'm sure if he came back to tell everyone that his lighthouse partner died of sickness and his body was disposed of in the ocean, nobody would've believed him and may have even criticized him for not keeping the body. I feel so bad for the lighthouse keeper. IT was basically self torture either way regardless and he had no other witnesses to prove his innocence.

The "hide and seek" story at the end happened near where I live in Orlando, FL. I didn't realize how abusive the man was too. It doesn't excuse what she did, but still. Man, that whole situation was all kinds of fucked up. And so is she.

I know some people like that. It doesn't matter how toxic the relationship, they are just tied to each other until one of them dies or goes to prison for life. Even when one of them gets separated for like 10 years, they immediately reunite and go back to all their toxic ways. It's like some form of dark magic that cursed them to haunt each other.

Plenty f*cked up... BUT I have a limited amount of sympathy for Jorge, all things considered. It doesn't excuse her, obviously... BUT if you can't contain yourself about someone, it's not healthy... SHE should've stuck to her guns, as it were, and once he was out... KEEP him out of her life. JUST drop the son of a b*tch and move on. Any time he shows, call the cops... period. Sooner or later, they'll get tired of screwing around and enforce law on him. DO NOT contact him other than that... (also period). BUT they both seem pretty attracted to the chaos... Maybe I'm screwed up, somehow, but once someone's "officially in the EX-territory" that's the end of it. I want NOTHING more to do with them or that situation. There's no point in trying to play that "make him jealous" game or playing "hard to get"... Sex is fun and all, but it ain't worth torture. Life's too damn short to waste my time. ...ANYWAYS... That's just how I see it. ;o)

A cruel twist of fate is that if he hadn't kept the light on he'd have been rescued earlier as they would have had to mount a more serious rescue effort. The fact the light was working meant that they thought it couldn't be that bad.

That’d be pretty tough to prove though. Unless she bought the suitcase in the last couple days, or searched ‘human suitcase suffocation’ on her computer, or told someone of her plans beforehand, it wouldn’t be enough. I would say the lighthouse distance from the nearest people wouldn't be what made them more isolated. If you were 100 miles from the nearest habitation, but on an island with grass, trees and your family and the supply ship arrived every two weeks, you would be less isolated than 20 miles from habitation on a small rock island by yourself with a supply ship only arriving every 6 months.

The suitcase couple is just proof that some people irrationally like violent, chaotic, drunken, dysfunctional relationships. They both had ample opportunities to leave the relationship, but kept coming back to each other. It’s just plain stupid. They both seem to have been chaos loving scumbags. The guy didn’t deserve to be murdered, but it was apparent that their relationship was going to end in a bad way and it did just that.

I didn't expect the video from the last story to be so disturbing. I'm specially sensitive to sound, so his muffled voice coming from the suitcase as it moved with him struggling inside... Is truly spine chilling to me. I think seeing the suitcase doesn't help either because it's hard to concieve that a whole person could be inside such a small space. I think my subconsciousness thinks that person might be cut to pieces and somehow still alive to fit in there (After all, murderers cutting their victim corpses to pieces to fit them inside suitcases seems to be fairly common practice amongst the coldest of them). Watched it once and I feel like it could give me nightmares. Won't watch it again.

Born and raised in Montana: We kept a .44 on the sofa for those mornings when we needed to chase the bears out of the trees so we could get out of the house. I had a well-intentioned friend from USC who'd gone camping with me in Yellowstone several years ago. I woke up to "the sound." Sure enough, we had a black bear snuffling around. Thankfully, rangers were in the area and got it moved on. Why was it so interested in our tent? My friend thought that strawberries and cream lip gloss wasn't food and she'd be fine putting it on throughout the night. One last comment on bears: The damage they do to the human body is almost indescribable. One of my earliest forensic anthro cases involved a guy who'd been eaten by a bear. What was recovered looked like doggy chew toys. We're pretty sure this guy died in his tent and the bear came along later looking for a snack. Wild times.
