I love my Infinity gloves. I put some athletic tape on all of the outer fingers to prevent them from turning, which is their great design flaw.

I make that noise you made at the start when I think about my Thokks too. :/ I think making Thokks modular was a mistake. If everything was just stitched into the gloves, they’d be better. Even a thin strip of something to attenuate shock would have been good on the outside of the innermost and outermost fingers. I wear them only for rapier. They aren’t safe for anything else in my estimation. I really think the infinities are great for open hilts but really not much good for closed ones. But along with that, I’d say that they aren’t as good as Gabriels…which you can get in 10 days instead of 10 months. I get that SG is a small operation, but I his is a huge factor these days. So for me for now, it’s Gabriels for longsword and messer, and Thokks for rapier.

I also wonder if Thokk inners plus RDs isn’t the best solution for sidesword right now.

We do not have the Gabriels in our club so far. They DO look interesting. I get the idea behind the modular approach of the THOKKs in general, but yea, I have my issues with the current implementation. I find the idea of the RD with THOKK inner lining interesting, but in all honesty, I have just put the inner glove back in... The infinities definitely work better for open hilts, but I think that is just a limitation that all thicker five finger gloves will share, no? Either the glove is so slim that it on its own does not protect enough, or the hilt has to be made so large that it throws everything off, like earlier Regenyei rapiers. It is a tough balance to find. Personally I prefer to keep the gloves as light as I can, but that is a choice that definitely affects how, where and who I fence :) - Peter

One of my friends broke his pinkie during sabre sparring with the Red Dragon gloves. Apparently with those a broken finger is not that rare. I am using spes lobsters for long sword sparring but they do not fit in my sabre hilt. I am using the black fencer 1803 sabre. So I am looking for durable gloves that will protect my fingers and will still fit in the sabre hilt of the black fencer sabre. Are the Thokk Weaponmaster what I am looking for? Sorry for the long text, but the Thokk Gloves are quite the investment.

No worries, I absolutely get that. The THOKK are a serious investment. I actually revisited the THOKKs here and durability is one of the points I address: kzitem.info/news/bejne/ooFpu3eekmZ9qmk The TL;DW would be: I still use them, even though I have alternatives, so whatever problems I have with them, there are things to like about these gloves. However the problems are hard to ignore, the biggest being durability. Mine are falling apart, and they are not my main gloves, you can check the pictures in the linked revisit for details on what exactly is breaking with mine (though by now, more things tore). Unfortunately, I know I am not having a "monday-set". I have seem them failing with pretty much everyone I know. The fabric just wears through, or simply tears at the seam, as does the faux leather. Because of that I cannot really recommend the THOKKs (at least in their current V1) to anyone to whom their price is not play-money. - Peter

I have a question about using infinities with basket hilted sabers. There are quite massive so it could be the problem to fit inside. Are they comfortable in handling this type for saber?
@die.freifechter
6 ай бұрын
It ultimately depends on your specific sabre, but generally I would say no. If the hilt and basket are "normal" in size, they will not fit the infinities, especially not in a "thumb on the back of the hilt" style of grip. With my InMotu/VB light sabre, for example, I cannot even get the hand inside the shell. In part that is a problem with any sword that has a knuckle bow. Sideswords get away with it, because there you often have one finger over the cross, leaving more room for the others. If the sabre is open, like some polish models for example, you have a better chance of fitting the Infinities, since you can compensate towards the pommel a little. Sigi has released a sabre with an oversized grip specifically for larger gloves because of this, the SIGI Saber Big, but I have not handled that myself. - Peter

infinity makes your fingers spread on the grip too much. you can t keep your fingers close together. to me they re useless. good thing is you can sell em straight forward cause there s a lot of hype around finger gloves and they take one year to deliver. regular sparring shells are my favorite. the sparring special are quite good for sidesword too

Cannot say I share your experience there. For me, clamshell gloves just do not allow for the types of grips and positions you need to be able to take with your hands when doing something like Messer or sidesword. I own the SG Specials, but I am not a fan I admit. They protect the fingers far less than the infinities and the lacquer the fingers are dipped in cracks and chips. - Peter

@@olafjagel5134 what s your sword? beginners tends to expose more the hands and also to attack more the hands, cause it s the easiest target of another beginner, and it s all right, but if you do longsword you need serious gloves. like sparring gloves shells or spes lobsters. Sparring you can have in 3 weeks for 160, lobster a bit more expensive but very protective you can have em right away from a couple of shops, they re always on stock. The Infinity I had to wait one year for! so they can t be your first glove, or you d leave fencing for golf waiting for them
