Teresa Lanceta, artist
Talia Weltman-Cisneros, SMU Lecturer of Spanish
Spanish artist Teresa Lanceta (Barcelona, b. 1951) is known for her intricate, colorful work in the medium of textiles. She adopted weaving as her preferred form of artistic expression in the early 1970s, seeing it as a medium ideally suited to bridging the divide between art and craft. Through her travels, she has drawn inspiration from many cultures, and has been particularly influenced by Romani and Moroccan nomadic weavers. Lanceta is the second artist to participate in the MAS: Meadows/ARCO Artist Spotlight program, a collaboration between the Meadows Museum and Fundación ARCO, and her work is currently on view in the museum’s galleries. Learn more about her practice in this conversation between the artist and Weltman-Cisneros.
