To whomever shared this on wimp.com... why does this video make you scared and angry at the same time? Do you not understand that these tires were placed here on purpose to build an artificial reef? It looks like it's growing splendidly...

Came here to say the exact same thing. Like why on earth would anyone go through the trouble of dipping tires into cement slabs and then dumping it in the ocean? It’s clearly deliberate and working quite nicely.

The people behind wimp produce quite a lot of factual errors and such which is frustrating to see

Florida tried this first It was a horrible failure It looks good at first until the tires start to fall apart and all the coral dies

Bad idea. It is a non-walkable coral substrate. It can be seen that only small colonies of soft corals settle there. When they reach a certain size, they will easily fly off the tires and die. It was better to cover everything with concrete structures or stones.

Even though these were intentionally placed there, isn't it amazing how wildlife can make things that we see as pollution into a habitat? In fact, these tires make an excellent habitat for a few generations of different types of sea life. They're durable, larger predators would have a hellova time getting smaller prey that uses them for shelter, and even the coral reefs are able to grow on them. Coral reefs are a form of life AND habitat, in and of themselves - but for them to grow on these tires just make them that much stronger.

I saw this exact same thing more than 30 years ago in one the beaches in Brazil. They tied bunches of tires together and threw them underneath a pier on a beach with sandy bottom to attract more fish species. Not sure of the results though...

@@megazenn22 it is this is a poor excuse for dumping tires the problem with ties is that they move much easier than other methods and it has failed really poorly before causing much more damage then good this one seems to be doing fine though

Finally someone admits that tires aren't pollution. Put them in a pond or creek and they become an overnight habitat.

@@davidtebera4488 large tracker tires are routinely placed in pounds for catfish habitat. In streams they are used by many fish and crawdads
