Video idea: After crocheting for 20 years I finally picked up knitting needles. Throwing the yarn was awkward and made me want to quit. Like everything else, I went to KZitem and found 2 videos teaching crocheters how to knit. I can see tons of value in teaching us how.

There's lots of methods for knitting. You might try continental or English flicking. I'm an English thrower...unfortunately I have little child-sized hands and I can't get a good grip on my needles while holding my yarn in position to pick for flicking/continental without my fingers cramping really quickly. But throwing is fine for me, if a bit inefficient.

@@fuzzypumpkin7743 Hi, idk If there are some but maybe you could find round needles that have a short body but normal/long cable(?)
@fuzzypumpkin7743

@@woolwitch Knitting needles are usually round? I think you mean circs. I only use circs. Short tips are actually really awful for me as they hit me in the middle of the palm. It has nothing to do with the needle length/body and everything to do with the position my short little fingers have to be in to hold the yarn + have any grip on the needles. It's a reason, though, not a problem that needs to be solved.

Proudest thing I made was a really nice fidget mat. I made them for PTSD veterans and I finally made up my own design that was a mix of soothing to look at, weighted on the lap, and a lot of items to either feel or use. I did an alternating wavy pattern that I used the 'third stitch' of a half crochet to make the top of the stitches stick out like a water wave, and then added a ship, cloud, fish, sun, and birds made of buttons and zippers and bobbles to work with. The ship sail is a textured triangle with buttons to unclasp it and re attach. Then the back is like a big pocket to put hands into but also give it lots of anchoring weight. All the colors are soothing and warm and I'm so pleased I was able to combine a couple different needs into one piece.

Just wanted to second that I'd love to see this if you could share somehow! I'm actually in the middle of trying to make my first (ish) design, which I'm calling my texture sweater because I just loooove textures and figure this is the reason I picked up yarn crafts in the first place (to make things according to my needs/creativity, and to touch lovely, soothing things :) )

@@sreece0928 a mat that has different tactile activities for your hands to fidget with when you feel anxious or triggered by PTSD. For some people it can be very grounding especially if you deal with flashbacks and also can help prevent people from doing harmful things to their own bodies such as skin picking. For me it would be helpful to keep my hands busy because otherwise I pick my nails and the skin around them and make myself bleed.

I felt the sweater talk so hard! I made a thick winter sweater for my daughter when she was 2 and she still fits in it really well a year later. She really loves it with her whole heart and asks to wear it even in the heat of summer. Every time she wears it, she gives herself a big hug and smiles so big. When people compliment the sweater, she tells them “mama made it” 🥺 it is the sweetest confidence boost and it is my proudest project. I made another for her once she grows out of the current one but I would never try to attempt it for myself out of fear of shattering my self confidence. ❤ I needed this talk though and in 2023, I’m going to make myself a sweater

I also crocheted a sweater for myself for the first time this year! It's a heathered forest green color, also with full sleeves, and I absolutely LOVE it!! I made it in time for Thanksgiving and proudly wore it for family dinner. I was shocked at how beautifully it fit, and that I could try it on in stages and make it perfect for me. It was a transformative project. I immediately then crocheted myself a vest, and then a pair of socks. From accessories to true wearables has been a profound revelation, and I am definitely going to be making more clothes for myself: summer tops, a skirt, maybe even a dress. I am smiling and sharing in your joy!

Ms Toni I have enjoyed your videos all year!! It's officially been one full year of knowing how to crochet for me, and I'm so happy. I learned how to make granny squares just the other day, a concept I just couldn't wrap my head around! I'm a left handed crocheter so I've spent a lot of time perfecting the simple stitches, so most of my items are made with sc, hdc and dc... but I love them. My biggest and proudest make of this year was a giant blanket for my cousin who just graduated and became a doctor so I made her a big blanket with two strands of baby yarn (never again) in her favorite colour. It took forever, and I was literally down to the wire on December 23rd to finish it to give it to her on Christmas Eve. I've learned a lot from that project alone - the importance of pacing myself, and the importance of support stretches and compression gloves... as well as not pushing myself to finish something if I'm going to hurt myself!! Crochet gave me something good to focus on in 2022, so I'm really pleased to head into 2023 with more experience under my belt and hopefully make some wearables I'll actually wear. I've made a couple sweaters already but they are Not Good... But your Rhinebeck sweater is so gorgeous I might just have to give it a try. :3 Thanks for everything you do, Ms Toni!

This year I made Lion Brand's Tree of Life Afghan pattern, only modified to be a full length blanket in Heartland by LB. It was a pattern my mom started making for herself after my brother and I were born. She made everyone in our family a personal crocheted blanket. I think life and the complexity of the pattern got in the way, so it's never been finished. It made it even more special this year because my mom had a stroke in the middle of the time frame I made it. I feel very lucky to have her with me to still use the blanket. It ended up using 3,100+ yards with a single crochet base. It really pushed me and my skills to a new level, and it means a lot to know my mom knows how much I put into this for her.

OMG I love both of your completed sweaters! Please, if you make another would you write a pattern. The poofy sleeves and the neckline are perfection. I'd love to see a video of you shopping for yarn, choosing the yarn weight and hook size, and choosing a pattern for a wearable. Sprinkle in clips of your progress, including any frogging, and of course, you finished project. Thank you for all your inspiration!

I think my proudest make of the year was my niece's birthday blanket. When she was born, I made her a blanket. When she turned 1, I made her a blanket. And this year, when she turned 2, she got a rainbow solid granny square blanket that she will love for years to come.

The make that I'm proudest of is the tunisian mitered squares sweater that I designed for my hairless dog.

I LOVE your temperature blanket. I had never heard of them before and then I saw one of your blankets you had in progress. From there I came up with a plan. My dad is very difficult to buy for, so I took his birth year and where he was born and created his temperature blanket. I gave it to him last year for Christmas. Thank you for all of your tutorials and your excitement. You are a true inspiration. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.

I used to strictly only make scarves and house decor. I joined an MKAL with a beginner group to make a sweater with scraps. After that, I have been on a sweater KICK. I am aiming to replace/remake all my department store, synthetic fiber sweaters with nice wool. My stranded colorwork with a thermal layer means I no longer need a winter coat. I am THRILLED. I am SO GLAD that you have found this joy in your journey as well. :)

I'm a knitter, I'm only just starting to learn how to crochet, but my favorite project I did in 2022 is really my only project of 2022 and its one I started in December so I am still working on it. I started knitting my first ever sweater!!! I'm very excited, I have the body done and am now working on the arms

I accidentally happened upon your channel around 4 mos ago when looking up Tunisian crochet. I'm so glad I did! I love your style and enthusiasm. I also love your creations. For Christmas I got a set of Tunisian crochet hooks and your Tunisian crochet handbook from my son. I was so so very happy and I'm excited to get started. You are a great teacher! Very clear and consistent in your instructions along with your enthusiasm make it that much easier to learn! Again, I'm looking so forward to getting started in the new year. Thank you! 😊
