A Cry, A Smile, A Dance by the legendary Judith Sephuma, well done guys you did well and i must say i really enjoyed your performance. However if my comment ended with me congratulating you, it wouldn't be the honest truth, sometimes we need that someone to tell you what you need to hear instead of just what you would love to hear. Right from the onset you where a little bit disoriented and sluggish. I could sense how nervous you are during the entire performance. What you did was a typical cover version of the song as we all know it, and you where practically playing it by the rules. Take total ownership of the song and spice it up with your own techniques to make it uniquely yours, and very now and then take us back to the drawing board just to refresh our memory that we are listening to a Judith Sephuma song, but feel totally free to hijack the song with your own unique styles and techniques. That's what would make the song so special. The Drums where totally cool and keeping up a steady rhythm, up until after the guitar solo, and he was all over the place with unnecessary drum rolls throwing the song off rail. The Bass was lacking that punch and steadfastness that keeps the song well rounded up and to the groove. The piano was well done, maintaining the lead and flow, thus keeping the crew intact, well done. though i can't say much of the second keyboard, nonetheless there is nothing destructive to say about it, i suppose it was the background strings. The guitar was just fine. the notes where crystal clear and well articulated in the melodies, but nonetheless very sluggish in the sense that he was holding back a lot. During the guitar solo i realized that the guy is definitely a good guitarist, however, he was totally holding back and not allowing himself to play to his full capacity. Had there been a live audience listening and cheering up during the performance, he would have gathered enough momentum to totally take off and let the George Benson, in him take charge. I would like to see another rendition of this song by you guys, but with you in total ownership of the arrangement. Otherwise, it's a big bravo from me. Well done .
