Mladina offers an ensemble of songs and dances rooted in Czech tradition. The songs are about the cherished old times, when people gathered around the table to do some fine handcraft, sing songs, and tell stories, or when they met in the square and talked about the usual stuff - work, weather, love, and beer.
Czech Traditional Art represented and developed with the highest quality is the philosophy behind all activities of Pilsen’s folk group Mladina. They were founded in 1954 in Pilsen and their name, translated to ‘wort’ in English, refers to Pilsen’s tradition of brewing some of the best beer in the world and has been used since 1994. The main inspirational sources for the group’s repertoire can be found in the area of southwestern Bohemia, particularly Chodsko and the Pilsen countryside. The group cooperates with prominent composers and choreographers while also creating their own choreographies and musical arrangements. The performers can be seen in only authentic folk costumes based on Bohemian traditions, which they create themselves. The group is also renowned for its talent within and outside of the Czech Republic, having claimed top spots in international dance festivals. The Pilsen folk ensemble Mladina was founded in 1954 as the Škoda Plzeň Song and Dance Ensemble. The ensemble has been operating under the current name, by which the ensemble refers to the Pilsen tradition - good beer - since 1994. The focus of its repertoire lies in the area of southwestern Bohemia. The ensemble collaborates with leading music authors and choreographers (Jaroslav Krček, Josef Krček, Josef Fiala, Jaroslava Smolová, Libuše Hynková, Miloš Vršecký) and at the same time creates their own choreography and musical arrangements.
