Well, I get what you're saying, but in all fairness, the first microscope wasn't invented until the 1660's, but it wasn't until the mid to late 1800's that doctors understood that those little creatures they were looking at carried disease. The 'miasma' theory was accepted for a bit more than 500 years after the 14th cent. plague outbreak. Viruses weren't discovered until the mid to late 1800's as well, and not visible until the invention of the electron microscope. One wonders what people 700 years from now will think, as they look back at our medical practices (along with a host of other behaviors and beliefs), and question how we could be so smart about some things, and totally clueless about others. Reading the stars was simple, by contrast, as they were more or less stable and/or reliable objects, and that could be seen.

There is nowhere near a "large number of us" that actually think that, it's a small stupid minority that got way too much media attention. The media isnt the only one blowing up the anti vaccination ordeal, it's also people like you that are part of the problem. The same exact thing goes for the flat earthers, especially outside of America cuz believe it or not...it's not the only place on Earth.

@@andrewquint7962 sorry if it was a bit too aggressive, in hindsight i probably shouldnt have phrased it that way. What I was basically trying to say is this: anyone that even gives these anti vax people/flat earthers any attention makes them....get more attention which is what they really want, theyre like activists pushing a ridiculous idea they somehow believe in. The best way to handle these people would be to just ignore them as even after being shown evidence and such, some of them just disregard it and keep continuing to spout nonsense propaganda backed by nothing. As for the american part, the most anti vaxers and flat earthers are based in america, the rest of the "1st world" has way less people that believe in all that, so you saying that "a large number of us think that vaccinations cause autism" might be true for some underdeveloped states (and even then its a very small percentage) but not for the rest of america, let alone the rest of the world.

Hell yellow fever is the reason Florida's capital is Tallahassee. It was originally supposed to be pt st joe and Tallahassee was just an abandoned village where officials from east and west florida would sometimes meet. Tallahassee means "old rancid tribal town". It was an empty ruin. Port saint joe was nearby but it was an actual settlement worthy of being a capital city near enough that east and west florida could meet. It got hit with a bad yellow fever outbreak that killed most of the inhabitants. The outbreaks kept coming over and over again until the town was reduced to basically nothing. It wasnt until air conditioning was invented (in pt st joe btw) that the area became inhabitable long term. Pt st joe still exists but it will never be what it couldve been.

But the mass hysteria is still going strong with some people, they will likely wear masks for the rest of their lives, like little facial comfort blankets.

*A day in the life of the 2020 covid pandemic* - *the year 2300...* "And people panicked and raced to the stores to grab...toilet paper? "Hmmm...perhaps with the primitive medicine, people in 2020 thought toilet paper prevented covid? "And as in any twenty-first century paranoia, many believed that closing down everything and attempting to force everyone into isolation cured disease. "Naturally, that didn't work...people *still* died of covid throughout 2020 into 2021... "Just imagine how titillating 'classes' on a telly screen were. "Family dinners talking to a screen...? Didn't work for most people. "And at the time, it took even top scientists almost a YEAR to develop a vaccine and almost another year to get the vaccine out. "A large part of the slow vaccination rate that crawled along through 2021 was a large number of ignorant people, especially in countries like parts of the United States who thought that vaccines were 'poison' or some sort of 'government plot'..." "These people opposed to vaccines sure learned the hard way about covid..."
