I applied to my local hospital and med-surg was the first department who called me back so I took it 😭😭 I’m scared. This my first hospital job. I hear a lot of horror stories about med/surg then I also heard it’s a great department to gain experience for other departments.

Ive worked psych inpatient with young adults for 4 years now (started at 19, its been my first only job in healthcare.) I start my CNA course tomorrow, then I will be an NST on med/surg. Im nervous but excited to gain medical knowledge before I start the nursing program in January!

My hospital the medsurg is pretty much the only unit in my hospital that considers nurses assistants as nurses assistants probably the only department that requires a cna certification

I’ve been thinking about applying for a CNA position in med-surg. But I’ve been kinda psyching myself out of it after watching so many negative videos (all made by RNs). What would you say is the hardest part about your job? (So far I only have 1 yr experience: geriatric & outpatient clinic)

I’m not surprised that med-surg has so many negative reviews because it’s A LOT. The only pro i would say is that it gives you the experience so that you are prepared to work on other floors such as the ICU or ED. Great stepping stone but it’s so much you have to learn/ do on med-surg because 9/10 the patients are not independent.
