I had a GSP named Snoopy, he was the best dog I ever had, he passed away at 16. He was a good, very intelligent and a very awesome pointer. He was a house dog and an excellent hunter. He was loved by all of us. We never had him caged...none of my dogs where ever caged, freedom is my motto. I miss him dearly.

Yes mine wants my attention outside. 100. But he much more laid back inside. He expects me to be with just him. I can't cut the grass,rake trim trees. ECT. His bark is piercing as he objects to everything I do.lol. I had a yellow lab before him named Cash. I was mistaken when I thought labs were the smartest breed. Bullet does absolutely say momma when I'm fussing or telling him no. He mimics my movements. It's incredible. I love him. And these videos are great

When I opened my family's door and surprised my mom the second my GSP Ellie heard my voice she bolted off the couch and tackled me. She was so excited to see me since she usually sees me every 6 months when I come home, and this was the first time it had been a year since I had seen her. I find with those imitation antlers they stop chewing on them after a bit. clean it off in some hot water no soap or bleach just as hot as you can stand with dish gloves on. you can also sand off a bit of the rough area. My gsp cut his gums on one of those so i try to keep them clean and relatively smooth.
@tundrathegsp
Жыл бұрын
We stopped using the antlers because they kept cracking and Tubdra would eat through them in less than a day. Maybe the ones we bought were imitation? I’m not sure but maybe that’s why they cracked so easily. And they are so expensive for her to just enjoy one day. We also do Himalayan cheese sticks, they last longer and she enjoys them ☺️
@willeatforfood69
Жыл бұрын
@@tundrathegsp I meant the thing next to her elbow at 3:23 in the video. Those are imitation antlers I believe looks identical to the ones I've bought in the past. If you have the time id go shed hunting in spring and try to find antlers that were dropped that winter. An antler that has had a full year of weather on it as opposed to just a couple of months with crack and break down very quickly creating bone shards. If you are giving bones make sure they are completely raw cooked bone also splinters very easily. ask your local butcher shop if they have raw bones.

I just started grooming a GSP. I’m so impressed w his discipline that I started researching. He plays in daycare for hours and then comes in for bath and grooming after, once a week. He stands like a statue while I work on him. Such a good boy. When he’s released from the groomer’s table, he knows the next thing that happens is his owner is to pick him and goes to the pick up door and he stands there staring at the door intently waiting for his owner. He’ll do that for over an hour and not move or sit or be tempted by treats or distracted by anything. He won’t take his eyes off the door. He does whine and cry sometimes if it’s a long wait but he won’t move a muscle or take his eyes off the door. What bugs me is his owner just comes and grabs his leash, says a few words to us at the daycare, but doesn’t even pet or acknowledge or make eye contact with the dog. Ive watched him put the dog in the car with no petting or eye contact and drive off. Can’t tell you how much it breaks my heart after seeing this loyal dog who loves his owner so much that he’ll stand in one place for an hour and not take his eye off the target because all he cares about is seeing his owner again. I’d say “dad” but this guy treats his pet like an object with no feelings. I guess he figures if he pays for daycare, that’s good enough. But, at the end of the day, all that dog wanted was love and to go home.
@tundrathegsp

Have really been looking to get a GSP - BUT ....I keep on being told that: 1) require "too much exercise" (I run 2-3 miles a day; hike weekly, play out side; 2) always want to "run away;" 3) prey drive "too high" 4) bark too much......Any thoughts. Tundra seems to not be like any of the above.

Hi, you seem to have an active lifestyle which is IMO perfect for a GSP if you do not hunt. They do need a lot of exercise and also a lot of mental stimulation as well. You're going to have to put a LOT of time if you want a happy and content GSP. Start with the fundamentals when they are a puppy and once you guys start to build a bond and trust together you should train your GSP to be off leash. Tundra never wanted to run away from us on purpose. We had a couple of incidents where she took off because of a bunny but she came back to us. We spent a lot of time on her recall and we're so confident letting her free without worrying. Yes, they have a really high prey drive since they are bred to hunt. But that should not stop you from getting one. As long as you guys have a bond and trust each other it is no problem. Just let your GSP do its thing. Tundra rarely bark. Only time is when she see something that is suspicious to her in front or back of our house. Other than that she is a really confident dog. Hope this helps and good luck on your decision.
