In this video I visited two out of three of Robert Johnson's graves. Robert Johnson was a blues artist who was murdered in 1938 before he rose to fame. Twenty-nine of his songs were recorded in the two years before his death.
His music went on to influence many musicians including Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, BB King, Erik Clapton and more. So even though Robert Johnson himself is not super well known, he influenced many artists who are well known.
If you go back and listen to his recordings, it is pretty striking how unusual his sound was for the early 1930's. He used unusual variations and patterns on the guitar, he was noted for his songwriting, and he does a great job translating the phrasing of the lyrics into the phrasing of the guitar. This is my favorite song of his: • They're Red Hot (SA.26...
The first grave featured in the video was at Payne Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Quito, Leflore County, Mississippi. You can learn more about it here, it's pretty much confirmed that his body is not buried here:

Robert Johnson's actual acknowleged grave is at Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Money Road, Leflore County, Mississippi. The grave was unmarked for decades. Rose Eskridge provided details on the burial in the year 2000. She witnessed the event and her husband dug the grave. He was buried just below a big tree. You can read more about it here:

Just down the road from The Little Zion cemetary was Bryant's Grocery. This is the site where Emmet Till supposedly made a flirtatious gesture of some sort to a white woman shopkeeper. He was a 14 year old by who was visiting relates from Chicago. He was kinapped by the shopkeepers husband and murdered and his body was found in the Tallahatchie River with a gin fan tied around his neck with barbed wire. Emmet's family insisted on having an open casket to show just how terrible the murder was and this event is regarded as igniting the civil rights movement.
The location of the river where his body was recovered is known as Graball Landing and it's marked by a sign. It's a bit of a drive from Bryant's Grocery, but I went to see it as the rain came down and a bunch of fish jumped from the water.
