Ollie I was in awe of that beautiful cathedral. The artworks inside were stunning. My first thought was how long it took each artist looking up or on scaffolding of some king laying on one’s back to paint such beautiful art. Loved everything about this video. Thank you both for sharing these travels. I will never see such beautiful in my lifetime so seeing these marvels are a real treat. Much love Ollie and Stephanie from Northern California, USA

Such amazing beauty in art and architecture. What a joy that we are able to see the finest works of master craftsmen from centuries past. By the way, Ollie, smart move to take the lift up the Torre dei Lamberti. That’s energy saved for further exploration. Finally, despite Ollie’s unfortunate shoe malfunction you’ve managed to share another wonderful soul-filled adventure.

Many years ago I stayed at the Excelsior Hotel in Rome and it was incredible, pre makeover and all the furniture was a genuine antique and all the porcelain was Ginori. I had breakfast on the balcony over looking Rome and the bathroom, in marble, was the size of my Paris appartment at the time ! I think I might be dissapointed to go back and see how they have made it over. Since I saw how they did the Raffles in Singapour I shudder, or the Ritz that was nicely old fashioned and it now all 'boutique hotel'. I am a snob. When they 'modernised' the Ritz Hotel in London in the 70, my best friend bought several dinner services and we used to eat off them and even used some as dog bowls !

Ollie, this old heathen found himself tearing up during your tour of the church of St. Anastasia, and I felt such a sense of connection with you when you emerged, clearly moved by the unique beauty of what you'd seen. So it clearly came across in the video, and I can only imagine how much more intense it must be in person. We're both artists, so perhaps it touches something within those who paint. Goethe thought one might just as well die after viewing Naples, but I'll bet my mortal soul on Verona . . .

Oh Ollie, when you walked into that church, I nearly dropped my cup of tea! (I was watching this vlog while having breakfast) I have never in my life, seen the inside of a church that looked so beautiful. I mean the roof, glowed!! It had a celestial feel to it. Most historical churches are pretty awesome, and you can clearly see the concentration of wealth and talent that has been poured into them. But this is like the GOAT!!

What a church! It trounces St Peter's IMHO! The 'greatest' is not always one's personal favourite, true of anything including churches! As you said, the balcony does not need to be authentic to have value. It is the idea it represents that matters. Thank you for another totally epic video!

Oh, My heart! This was so amazing! Just cannot tell you how exquisite this all was to see from here, and to be able to take part with you was even making it so much more special. Thought all the beauty of the Anastasia's Church (could never put into words what I felt in the church, my heart just pitter pattered, with all of the frescos and the lovely sculptures and it is the most spectacular church I think I have ever seen! I think Oliver, you summed it up well and your emotions and really said it all, as well. Cannot imagine though how you really did feel as being there in person, must have even stirred the heart more, but do not see how, as it brought tears to my eyes, but with joy and inspiration! Truly the Oprah was beautiful and the singing delightful! Nice you met Vivienne and Simon later! Everyone looked so beautiful and handsome in their beautiful clothes especially the velvet. Great match. The Hotel was the best, and the Anastasia room was one no would ever forget if they stayed in it! You would think you died and went to heaven, between the church and the hotel while in Verona! I could not help giggling a few times (my husband wondered what I was looking at?) as you did not quite look comfortable in the Hotel Room showing the Annastasia room, when 'trying to be seated on the furniture! ' I loved it! Watching you both try to figure out 'how they worked!' When Oliver was walking and the sole of his shoe came off, I imagine was not fun to him, but have to say it was funny to hear that sound and wondered what was happening on the ground, as you wer walking along, and what was making that clicking sounds on the pavement when walking so quickly to get to the Oprah! Between you and Stephanie and the hurrying and deep breathing you both were the center of attention, in the middle of all of the crowds. I Could find you anywhere! lol (and I have no sense of direction, but could listen for clicking, deep breathing, and there you are!" ( Am being just plain ridiculous of course, but it was cute ) Poor Oliver and all the stairs he climbed in the Arena! He made it to the top although had to turn off the video in order to handle it all. Those steps looked like they were truly unimaginably hard for most anyone to climb! I think you had to step up more than you would think? Well, you both are lots of fun! And the places you take us cannot be beaten, they are absolutely grand! Thank you so much as never in my whole life will I get to ever see all of this and yet my grandfather came from Italy, but yet for me, it would be impossible to ever know the life led without these particular vlogs! I certainly enjoy everyone! It makes my heart glad to know you both are such dear friends and it shows with each vlog you do have a wonderful time, too!

Love all your videos, this one is meaningful to me as I got to spend a day in Verona (not near long enough). Saw the balcony, however, there were so many people and tour groups, you could not get near it. Spent time in the colosseum, which was really neat. They had an ice skating performance that weekend and the ice stage was melting as they were removing all the props. Living in Canada and surrounded by skating/hockey/curling rinks it was pretty neat seeing this in Italy in the heat of summer. You are quite right about the Basilica St. Anastasia - absolutely breathtaking. I have seen so many cathedrals and basilicas (coming from England and touring other places); yet there is always one that comes along, slightly different that seems to hit at your heart and soul. Thank you again for sharing the world with us.

"My friend" you know because maybe you got excited once you entered the church, because in the silence you felt a strong emotion in observing sacred art. Artistic works invite us to a relationship, to a participation. Art opens spaces of communion. Through shapes and colors, the images invite us to observe, listen, touch, desire. Stimulated by sight and fascinated by narratives, our senses would like to intuit something that goes beyond the surface of matter. Renoir told his son Jean: "Painting is not told, it is looked at. What would it be, if I told you that Titian's courtesans make you want to caress them?". And on another occasion he added: «When it comes to a landscape, I love those paintings that make me want to go inside and take a walk». The image activates our senses, stimulates them to knowledge.
