110th anniversary of the start of World War One.
Our film lasts just under half an hour because we were so impressed with the very rarely used Tin Turtle 3090 that we recorded a lot more than we usually do.
War Hunslet 1215 is also featured, in fine fettle, with Martin Ashworth and Nathan O'Connor on the footplate. The opening shot of 1215 was filmed with remote camera placed at a safe distance on the ground.
David Levy is the driver of the magnificent tin turtle, a machine built in 1918 by Motorail, it has a 40hp Dorman four cylinder petrol engine, and weighs six tons!
The loco spent 60 years at Knostrop Sewage Works having never seen active war service, and was restored in 2002, the subject of TV programme Salvage Squad.
We were completely blown away by the turtle, it is truly a unique loco that oozes character, and you'll hear my descriptions in the film, when I wasn't lost for words.
A brilliant day at Apedale.
Big thanks to the super crew for their kindness and hospitality as always. Salt of the earth people.
