I'm a Missouri arrowhead veteran with a question. Do you find many artifacts where the streams are channelized? I hunt where the streams flow more naturally, avoiding where it's artificially strait. Is this a mistake?
@Theditchwalker
Жыл бұрын
It could be..,because you never know where the stream may be cutting into a site....whether it be where it was dredged straight or not. Yes I do find artifacts in these areas.Personally.,I look for tributary systems that originate from Higher ground and/or streams that run along higher ground...I do good generally along the second and third ancient flood terraces....I like to keep in mind that the water levels were much higher in the archaic period. These streams increase the chances of cutting through archaic sites

A lot of experience is required in this hobby to identify modern from anciently made artifacts....on the realistic side.,it is highly unlikely that a modern knapper would toss his reproductions into any random stream and hope someone finds it one day.....experience in finding and handling ancient pieces let's you know how different materials patinate over time and what materials are typically used in the manufacture of ancient pieces

Your videos amaze me! I live in N. GA and used to hunt these in an uncle's garden every year when he tilled it up. He owned about 100 acres beside a very big creek but only plowed about 10 acres. We found so much out there but not much that were compete. He found a lot, but he was there 24/7. I no longer have access to that property, but I still look around that creek but have never found as much as a chip. Any ideas? I kind of follow your creek walking, but never find anything. That particular creek is so big and deep that it would be hard. Plus digging in the banks would be trespassing. I love this kind of stuff and would like to get my children into it

Stellar points, Ive never seen them so Orange. I suppose those are all Jasper. You ever find Obsidian? Clear Quartz? and/or Pyrite down there? Was your Dalton a "Solutrean"? Those Benton just came out for ya that day! How exciting a hunt! Oh, thats another early period! You refer to it as Paleo, I think "Solutrean", but not my era of History Studies concentration. My focus is Gobekli Tepe, and Sumer, then Kemet/Egyptian. History, Anthropology (some Archaeology) Beth Bartlett Sociologist/Behavioralist and Historian PS: Dr Stanford Emerson Solutreans, the American Ice Age Peoples. Some of his works are on KZitem. I appreciate his "Authentic Academic" perspective, ie: adheres to the "Standards of Science and Research" which prohibits using a Theory as Fact. (Mainstream Academics are tied to their Theory based Paradigm, and that just blocks new ideas, theories, Explorations and Discoveries.) "I cant like that" But, each to their own mind.
@Theditchwalker
Жыл бұрын
Thanks Beth...yes.,they are jasper and various heat treated alluvial gravel cherts. No.,there's no obsidian here in Mississippi..a few points can be found of clear crystal quartz in the southern part of the state. We have pyrite in the form of Iron pyrite and is very abundant here in the Northern part of the state. They are not solutrean...Dalton technology appears to have evolved in the transitional paleo to very early archaic period dating between 10,000 to 9,200 Bp...much younger than solutrean technology. Clovis technology is considered the oldest in North America at around ( arguably) 12,000 Bp.
