@@sabahk I mean yh, but some friends-to-lovers relationships come from a case of genuine obliviousness. Dynamics within platonic relationships change all the time because of all types of inside/outside influences so it could just be the case of "oh, I realised I suddenly like this person more than I thought I did before" or even "I had a different opinion of what love was, and I've realised and come to understand that the love I provide and show towards this person is more than I would give to anyone else" - kind of thing... If you get where I'm coming from. So as long as you're telling that person how you feel soon after you feel it, it can be pretty healthy (imo)

This also doesn’t account for enemies to lovers in non-romantic genres. Like what about in a superhero sense, where one character is literally a villain (rather than a bully or sports rival or anything like that) and the other is a hero! my personal favourite trope is idiots to lovers and i know it's almost like a subgenre of friends to lovers but i just love the ships where the feelings are CLEARLY reciprocated from the start but both sides are so insanely clueless about the other's feelings and yet everyone around them is so done with this neverending stupidity haha 😄 plus you get great comedy out of this trope, and the outcome (if it does end on a happy note) is so rewarding! and since i am also lowkey a masochist, all the sad stories where this ends tragically (with either one or both of them dying or just,,, circumstances where it just can't work out for one reason or another) hit me in the feels just right

when you were talking about romeo and juliet adaptations that don't have chemistry, i HAVE to bring up the book These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong (its technically a duology)!! it takes place in Shanghai in the 20's and has some stranger things-like sci-fi/fantasy plus SUCH GOOD chemistry! i highly recommend

I like when people don’t like and at least one of them finds the other super annoying, which ends up being charismatic. Like Percy Jackson Annabeth really doesn’t like Percy in the beginning of first book or Gracling. Like they start of bad but not really enemies. I really like that dynamic

There's definitely a whole lot of love triangle tropes in K-dramas. I feel like I haven't watched a single romance K-drama show without any love triangles. It's usually two guys after one girl.

For me enemies to lover with str8 couple is so bad..Idk maybe bc I never really saw or even read one w/good plot & actually made it wholesome w/out hating one of the character or both it also always reek misogyny for some reason??? Like y literally y? I hated enemies to lovers for the longest time but then I was introduced to enemies to lover but QUEER versions and I was shocked no no I was actually shocked bc I thought I hated that trope but it was so good and so well written (except the homophobic person fell for the queer person bc they were projecting kind of trope that shi suck and is homophobic and I hate it w/everything in me) like literally a whole other world than str8 enemies to lovers and the friends to enemies to lovers is also SO SO SO fcking good (HELLO? SHE RA ANC CATRA?? ITS LITERALLY THE BEST FRIENDS TO ENEMIES TO LOVERS)

if you need a romeo and juliet retelling/forbidden love trope that has a MASSIVE amount of chemistry, then you should read These Violent Delights by chloe gong. it's childhood friends to enemies to friends to lovers to enemies to lovers

I will always go with friends to lovers just because that's how me and my fiance started. We were two cute beans being the best of friends and now we are planning our wedding this year. And the fact that i get to not just plan a wedding with my best friend but i also get to marry her too is the best feeling ever! hehe

Enemies and lovers plus let's just settle are my favorite tropes and YES enemies and lovers mean that they NEVER actually become real stable lovers, they never rest!! This is also why on the flip side I love the "you are not my one true burning love, but I'm tired so let's just get together" trope. Loving both of these tropes is what makes me better than most other people

My favorite trope is when the main character is so oblivious of the love interest's feelings towards them. Sort of like a sub-genre of enemies to lovers because the main character believes the love interest hates them, but in reality, they are so in love with them. And they give them so many hints, but it literally goes over their head.

rivals to lovers is SO underrated i love it so much!! imo if a story is set in modern day, enemies to lovers rarely works (sometimes they're enemies for a good reason) and rivals to lovers has the tension without any moral conflict

Ok hear me out, it's a little specific but my all time favorite trope will be height and strength difference. Character A is strong, big, merciless, powerful, they can have the world at their feet and suddenly Character B appears who is small, delicate looking and weak and still manages to put Character A on their place. Maybe one of them is supernatural or they are both human, but what I like is this power dynamic between an unruly being being tamed by someone seemingly weak.

So like someone ruff/ harsh being softened by someone delicate/gentle and only them (and the gentle person becomes more head-strong). I normally don't associate those with physical attributes, but character-wise I enjoy that as well

i don't care for love triangles most of the time but i do love how they did the love triangle in never have i ever. like, devi is a stupid teen and her interactions with ben and paxton are so genuine and indicative of being a stupid teen who's her own worst enemy. plus her plot line with ben is enemies to lovers which is always fun but i also find her plotline with paxton to be full of badly timed mutual pining and overall very dynamic. the angst and pining between the three of them is very funny to watch and i think it's very lovingly written.

friends to lovers have the perfect amount of pinning and angst,,, delicious. nothing will ever top her for me. however side romance subgenre?? but amnesia tropes... look i know they can be cliche and poorly done but sometimes they are amazing. especially if they were already dating/married but one forgets but then they fall back in love
