After watching this I think 🤔 this is more of a case of advertising first class but knowing that nobody will buy it (apart from you😂). If they do, it may be 10 tickets a year across the fleet. Hardly a money earner but it at least sets them up to say they offer "first class" like Emirates. Most passengers will walk through to economy and see this and think it is first class. I agree that this is not a true international first class product, but for west Africa? It's first class lite.

You missed an enormous opportunity on this flight. Years ago we flew from Johannesburg to Rio...daytime. We left at about 10AM Africa time and arrived at about 2 PM Brazil time. The great thrill was flying over the Namib Desert at a relatively low flight level. I am Angolan and unfortunately i have to agree with you, Taag is not capable to keep the first class and even lot of Taag workers and crew agree with it, Taag is facing lot of problems and the last management was the worst, they came up with lots of bad measures that only got its situation worse, the new management is trying to save it, let's give them some time, but as to first class, let Taag just leave it for the strongest, because first class is service with high quality, it is a mockery Taag keeping on calling mediocre service as first class, a good business for us is enough. i hope they watch the video, read the comments and start working hard to change the situation.

By the way, i watched your TR Jakarta- Amsterdan and i enjoyed it a lot, i couldn't imagine that the next would be Taag, let's remember that Taag and Guaruda entered the blacklist of European aviation at the same time in 2007 and left it at almost the same time, i always think about it😂🙂.

Didn’t the last management become the first administration to bring TAAG to profit? If they did that in just 2 years imagine what they could have done with public support in 5 years. I’m not sure what measures you thought they brought that were bad? I would be interested to know. They had to deal with sabotage (the Aviation committee blocking their plans to expand cargo to make profit- then they could have paid the debt of $10M that they were given as the previous managers had not paid the bills). 40,000 blankets and 4 containers worth of product had ‘gone missing’ from the warehouses, things were being stolen at every part of the chain so this needed to be fixed. You know workers of any company will berate managers when they get rid of people, but when you have a lack of skills and a surplus of people (there were over 70 ppl on expat packages in Brazil- any normal airline would have about 3 in an outstation) then unfortunately unpopular changes need to happen. You know the new administration are already losing 30% of revenues and the likelihood is TAAG will simply collapse. I just hope that a distaste doesn’t happen caused by poor management of maintenance 🤞

Egyptair has never served Brazil with scheduled flights, though it did operate a few charters. Royal Air Maroc did serve Brazil on two different occasions. The first was Casablanca-Rio de Janeiro back in the 1970s and 1980s using 747s (and it was celebrated for excellent service back then). Despite São Paulo being the largest city and economic capital of Brazil, and by far the largest local market in the country, it lacked a large international airport of its own until the mid-1980s, when Guarulhos ("gwah-ROO-lyoos", similar to "Julius") was opened, hence the routing through Rio. RAM returned in the late 2010s using 787-8s (this time to GRU), but it suspended its flights during the pandemic and never returned. TAAG also suspended its flights during COVID, but it returned as soon as it could. Yes, the newer international Terminal 3 at GRU is flashier, but it was somewhat underdimensioned, and LATAM has had to move some of its international flights back to the larger but older T2, especially during the nighttime long-haul rush hour. Most Latin American and African airlines operate from T2 (Copa Airlines and South African operate from T3). Spain's Air Europa is also in T2, but Iberia is in T3. Since all domestic flights (other than Azul's, which operate from the very small T1) also operate from T2, and GRU is by far the busiest domestic airport in Brazil as well, T2 can be very congested and a nightmare at some times of the day.

If you are lucky on flights to Foz Do Iguaçu sometimes the airplane will fly over the "Cataratas Do Iguaçu" during the final approach and is a sight to see! Landing at Rio De Janeiro Santos Dummont is also an adventure on its own. Talking about Taag, they are trying to serve as a low-cost airline between South America and Europe, they offer really cheap flights from Brazil to Portugal. They are trying to change their strategy and work more like a low-cost airline that connects South America and Europe at least that is how people in South America see them. I can see that they could be a more business-focused airline as well, considering how big the influence of China is in South America and Africa, and since all Chinese airlines stopped operating in South American countries Angola could be the country to bridge this gap. Let's wait and see what they will end up doing.

Emirates, Qatar, Turkish, Ethiopian, and European airlines such as AF/KL, LH, and BA already bridge the market between Brazil and China (and Japan, which is an equally or more important Asian market from Brazil). It will be tough for TAAG to compete with all of them, especially Ethiopian with its usually much lower fares, unless TAAG offers really crash fares. Even if they go that way, they're likely to be offering few weekly flights, while all others fly daily (QR and AF twice daily from GRU). So, I don't see them becoming a major player on that route.

Great video! Frustrating to hear about your lecture from the TAAG crew. You are not the first KZitemr to have this issue. I think this is a bit of a hangover from the civil war days (1975-2002). There seems to be a general, residual paranoia around cameras and an overall bureaucratic attitude of needing permits for everything. My friend and I were arrested, jailed and almost deported on a kayaking trip there in 2016 because Angolan security forces thought we were using our filming gear to spy on a hydroelectric installation on the Kwanza River! kzitem.info/news/bejne/13-c1KaHg4h1iaQ Small correction: Aeroporto Internacional 4 de Fevereiro is not named after Angola's independence date (which is 11 November). It actually commemorates the start of their armed uprising against Portuguese colonial rule in 1961: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angolan_War_of_Independence

Often you make some good "networking", sometimes you get a complimentary upgrade or courtesy from the cabin crew. Obviously don't walk around like the plane is yours pretending you can do their job better or some sort of weird attitude. Just be a normal person, nice, polite, that's all. Patrick, thanks for another review. I do appreciate that you are going out of your way to review more unusual and unknown airlines. I know that you are a nice guy and you try to find the good wherever you are able. However, if you want to be a true reviewer you have to be able to call it like you see it and call out incompetence, horrific maintenance, poor catering, imbecilic ground and in flight experiences. Frankly, that plane should not have been flying. You are a pilot. You know this. I am glad that you are safe, but the poor interior maintenance does not reflect well on the airline. Period. You keep saying the experience was more like business. My goodness, that would be a totally unacceptable business experience. And the company culture is one of arrogance and of ignorance of what it takes to be an international airline. It does not cost more to be kind, caring and hospitable. This is poor management and bad hiring. There are spectacular Angolan FAs on all of the middle eastern airlines. Well trained and professional. A few new aircraft and a new airport built by the People’s Republic of China will not solve the issues. Frankly, the corruption and lack of focus on safety and quality by the parties involved is frightening. I think that you need your be a little tougher in your reviews. Not mean, just more definitive. Safe travels.

benefit of hard stand boarding are great shots of livery (wait, is the background music a gaming music version of "It's a beautiful life"??) so at 5:05 is that lounge 'kinda' a lounge or not exactly one (#details) boarding looked like a royal nightmare, the many theoretical elements of a worn out, sketchy looking cabin are laughable but gotta say the 'TAAGazine' is great marketing idea - 'the temperature of Satan's butthole', 'mid-flight urine tests' for pointless paper cups in the lav and oh, the 'TED talk' scolding 🤣dude, what is NOT to love about your videos 🤣and on your final thoughts of not wanting to be too critical, i wondered if you changed your mind after editing this and saving it with a title (in caps) that pretty much channels that not-so-critical criticism (i know, i'm bustin yer chops 😂 but all in good fun)

Just flew TAAG from Sao Paolo to Luanda yesterday.....wow!!!Definitely the worst flight I have ever taken.Miserable crew,777 300er that should not be flying.Horrible condition.Entertainment system not working. As the flight was very empty,Pretty much had unlimited choice where to sit. They decided to lock most of the toilets. The remaining ones were filthy. Will be avoiding TAAG in the future.

Out of all of it, I’m struggling to wrap my brain around the concept of two cabin crew firstly, having a problem with the sole first class passenger moving seats-particularly given that several things on the seat he had weren’t working or stopped working… And secondly these two cabin crew, despite all of the extensive “people skills” training they received, felt unable to deal with you on their own and felt the need to drag the captain (I presume that he had the four stripes on his shoulders at least) out of the cockpit to give you a telling off! Okay I know technically the PIC is responsible for the aircraft and everyone on it, but I always thought that they’re only brought out of the cockpit to handle unruly passengers. Even then that’s usually on the ground. During flight many airlines are reluctant to have the captain deal with an unruly pax because one punch to the head incapacitates said captain. lol I have several questions about the details of that incident.

Wait the outlets did not work properly so you moved to an empty seat as a paying customer and they had the Pilot reprimand you??? This is a joke NO??? How Dare they not appreciate you as a VIP Passenger. Cracked window, safety video issue, dont film the food in the lounge WTF
@sergioagostinho72

It just happens when they feel frightened, because we already have some videos at this lounge and they don't do anything against these passengers, It depends on the person you find there, unfortunately.

1. This is not first class. It is business class on a bus if that. 2. There are airlines who have fired the entire crew when KZitemrs make negative reviews on their airline. So I too would had asked you to stop filming. This video while it leaves a negative review is very nice about it. I’ve seen KZitemrs complain about arbitrary things like they are King Charles. All that said. Good video. I enjoyed it.

I am Angolan and i have flown with TAAG multiple times in business as well as economy class on international and local flights. The service you received in first class is appalling and as im Angolan i feel you have been robbed. I flew in Business from Luanda to Lisbon, and i had to stand in a queue for boarding with other economy passenger with no priority boarding, the crew were very arrogant and i had to raise my voice to get some attention from them. TAAG needs to improve their customer service if they want to compete against SAA or Ethiopian. The locals flights are the worse... multiple cancellations without prior notice, delays without any information etc... TAAG needs an urgent revamp.

I'm always so intrigued by these lesser known airlines, what a mess of a flight and the boarding process! I'm still a bit gobsmacked they had you hang around for so long instead of boarding first. I assume the newer planes are really nice, though.

Taag relies on state subsidized fuel to keep prices low, I think their strategy is continuing to be a low cost flagship of sorts. I think it's crazy, but some Brazilians and Portuguese consider a layover in Luanda on their way between those countries to save a few bucks.

@@AndreMarques45 , we were also hopeful when the B777's arrived, they were the best choice, we heard a lot of statement about the performance of these plane and the Boeing737, look now at the way the are, they also did the same with the new planes bought from Boeing decades ago, the new ones to be and the new airport are not going to change anything if we do not change our mindset, the way we deal with aviation, the responsibilities and commitment with the business.
