I'm sure the dog was the other persons... but by taking in the dog, they take on all responsibilities, so are liable. My issue is that if it happened with the owner there, then he shouldn't be liable at all. They should have instantly went after the owner. They waited until she disappeared to go after him, even when they knew for a fact the lady was the owner (because the mother talked to her to confirm it and to get an apology).
@brandinelson7941

Agreed. This isn't right. It wasn't him walking the dog and it wasn't his dog at the time. He was trying to do a good deed to not give the dog away to strangers. Not disagreeing, but it makes me wonder. Let's say the defendant was absolutely telling the truth. Just because he has the dog now, why would that mean he is responsible for all former actions? Again, the judge's decision makes sense to me, not questioning that. I'm simply asking. If I bought a used car, say, and then got sued because it was involved in a hit-and-run the year before I bought it, would the judge say to me because I'm the owner of the car I'm responsible?

Not all dogs are the same. Pitbulls need a strong owner who knows what they're doing, where a lab (for instance) for the most part has been put on this planet to be goofy (in a good way) and friendly. Some dogs are lap dogs, some dogs like to just lay around most of the time, some are high maintenance. It really irks me when people try to say that pits are the same as any dog, they're gentle with their kids, etc. But like I said, they need a strong owner who knows how to handle them. And most of the cases I see where a pitbull has attacked another dog, or a human, you can bet the owner is clueless on how to handle them properly.

Pitbulls are sweet loving dogs. If they behave badly it's how they're trained and treated at home. It's the little ones that are aggressive. I had a Jack Russell/Pomeranian mix. I always had him on a leash. When I walked him, we constantly got attacked by smaller dogs off leash. Watch videos online, small dogs are aggressive. You will find a lot of Pitbulls videos showing how loving they are. I've been bitten twice, once by a small dog and once by a Greyhound. I was terrified of larger dogs. It was a Pitbull that got me over that fear. He probably doesn't treat that dog right.

I'm a known skeptic, but I actually believe the defendant. I think his girlfriend (witness) kept the dog after the roommate went to a shelter. The one issue I have with the story is why did the roommate suddenly go to live in a shelter where she could not keep her dog. 🧐 Since the roommate who is currently in jail was walking the dog at the time, it seems plausible that it was the roommate's dog. Seems the defendant's girlfriend had more of a connection to the dog than the guy. I guess you could just pin it on the person whose name is on the lease (assume that is the defendant). He could them sue the jailbird roommate to recoup what he had to pay. 🤷🏾♂️ Edit: The defendant slipped up in the hallway and said, "she assumed MY dog was my dog". Uh oh!
