Rising above a line of fencing along 15th Ave West in Seattle, the tops of several motorhomes are visible at the Salmon Bay Village ‘safe lot.’
The village opened in December with the goal of bringing people who live in RVs off the streets of Seattle to connect with services.
Seven RVs have already been disposed of through Salmon Bay village, including another one on Wednesday. Thirty-five RVs are in line to come to Salmon Bay Village, according to the Low Income Housing Institute.

2:50 Seattle Fire Department Chief Harold Scoggins believes the city needs to take a harder line on abandoned buildings, perhaps increasing the ability to tear down structures at risk of fire.
He told the Seattle City Council’s public safety committee that his department has already responded to 22 vacant building fires this year, including the latest on Rainier Avenue early Tuesday morning. Scoggins also cited the fire on New Year’s Day off of Madison Street that has closed that main arterial for weeks for cleanup.
Last fall, the mayor and council agreed to stiffen penalties for owners of vacant buildings that are at risk of collapse or fire. But Scoggins made the argument it may not go far enough, and that the problematic buildings present risks to the public and to his firefighters.
