Just FYI, the reason for the single high mounted mirror was that Ferrari misunderstood a US import law that said no part of the body could obscure the rear view in the mirror. Since the fenders were so wide, they needed to mount the mirror high. In '87 they realized their mistake and doubled the mirrors and put them in their proper position. The passenger side mirror btw isn't one of those "objects in mirror are closer than they appear" mirrors either. It's a flat pocket-type mirror, allowing you to see 4 inches out the passenger side. In a word, useless. :)

I think Andy would struggle to make a documentary about my favourite racing game: "Well, you might think that the anti-gravity vehicles in WipeOut are impossible, but... well, you'd be right" 😆 Micro Machines offers more possibilities, though. (And for me the Micro Machines games were the pinnacle of the top-down, scrolling racers, and were a heck of a lot of fun. And you've got to love Codemasters' innovation in producing a cartridge for Micro Machines 2 on the Mega Drive with two extra controller ports built-in to the cartridge itself!) But there is one iconic car from a racing game I'd love to see him make a documentary about - the Lancia Delta HF Integrale from Sega Rally Championship.

I just realised that Big Foot (NES) and Off Road (NES) were two different games! I played both as a kid and somehow during the decades since, my memory has mixed the two into one... Colin McRae Rally, as a teen we sometimes went to my mate's place to play that on a friday night if there was nothing interesting going on in our small town. He had the steering wheel and pedals, it was pretty amazing at that point! Either that or listening to Black Sabbath on his great hi-fi system or wathcing horror movies on his home theatre system with a huge subwoofer. As for favourite game, I loved Spy Hunter on C64. I played it in my other mate's place years before reaching teenage years, and he had a steering wheel controller too! It was magic! This took me back to memories I was not sure I even had anymore, so big thanks for that! I think I have mentioned that before, but I'll mention it again. That's why I'm subscribed to this channel, the memories that you conjure up from the parts of my brain I didn' know I had, and because you make great videos of things that I'm interested in!

I always loved how the early outrun games used a mirror car model to denote if you were steering left or right. you can tell by the little horse logo on the back and as it switches sides with each turn from left to right. It made it easier to program the game because they didnt have to redraw the car model for each turn, just flip it. Later outrun games (like outrun 2) they had to program the car model at various angles of a turn in order to maintain the horse logo only being in one direction. Now, since they no longer have the ferrari license, Sega has changed the logo on the back of the car into a bird (as seen in the switch/3ds versions) which is the same shape regardless of turning left or right.

McRae died on 15 September 2007 when his helicopter, a Eurocopter AS350B2 Squirrel, crashed 1 mile north of Lanark, Scotland, close to the McRae family home. McRae's five-year-old son Johnny, and two family friends, Graeme Duncan and Johnny's six-year-old friend Ben Porcelli, also died in the crash. The parents of Ben Porcelli had not given McRae permission to take their son in the helicopter. Sheriff Nikola Stewart stated, after the 16-day inquiry, that McRae had been engaged in "unnecessary and unsafe" low-level flying at the time of the crash, and that as a private pilot McRae was unqualified and untrained to fly at such a level. McRae's flying license was also found to have expired in 2005, and his "valid type rating" for the helicopter had expired in March 2007.

What an absolute treat this video is. Superb to learn more about Ironman’s Toyota and the pinnacle of gaming for me - Outrun and it’s unique Testarossa. Another of my arcade go to’s was Taito’s Chase H.Q - they had one in Gatwick Airport and my parents would have to take my sister and I to the airport just to play it! Naturally, as a C64 owner, I was gutted with the Ocean conversion. How I now love the Porsche 928 though. Also the C64 version of Sega’s Power Drift blew me away when Zzap!64 gave a free demo on tape away with an issue. That really brought the spirit of the arcade home for me and I still play that game today - along with Outrun (my no.1 game of all time) and Chase H.Q. If only we could get a kickstarter funded to have Chris Butler, the genius behind the C64 port of Power Drift, to do his magic with a proper Chase H.Q for the C64. I agree with Super Cars 2. I never owned an Amiga, so I never got the chance to try the one-player mode. But a friend of mine owned an Amiga, so we played the heck out of the two-player mode. There was however one other (more normal) car game on the Amiga that I was fascinated by. I read and re-read the articles on that game and really let my eyes linger on the screenshots. The game was Jaguar XJ220. As far as I remember it, Core Design was always really good at graphics. So good in fact that some of their games seemed to me back then to be made for the next generation of the machine. I was however a PC-user, and did my gaming time during the 90s on that platform. One car game that I played a lot was Stunts. I am told by the internet that it was known as 4D Sports Driving outside the US, but I always knew it as stunts. Me and my brother played that game quite a lot, and each had our favourite cars. His favourite was the Jaguar, and I thing I went for the Lamborghini.

Loved it, would love to see another vid with your favourite planes from games. Stunt Car Racer has to be one of my fav racing games, nunno if the car existed in real life.

Just goes to show, Outrun is still a number #1 game this many years later. Yu Suzuki had lightning in a bottle.

For me the Standout racing games & cars from my childhood are the following: Outrun-Testarossa- (1986) (The 1st Racing game I ever played Thorpe Park 1987), Burnin' Rubber- Porsche 956 (1990), Nigel Mansell's F1- Williams FW14b (1992), Daytona USA- Hornet (1994), Sega Rally 1- Toyota Celica GT-Four (1995), V-Rally 97- Mitsubishi Evo 4 (1997), Metropolis Street Racer- Mazda Miata/MX-5 (2000) By the end of the year 2000 the "house had been built". The last 22 years has been about sequels, rip-offs and HD remasters. No fresh racing game concepts have come to be table which is a bit sad.

Owned not one one, but two Alpha Romeo's? A true petrol head then!

Two is the bare minimum number of Alpha Romeos you must own. One to drive, one as a backup. ;-P

I rocked Colin McRae with my MS wheel and a projector. Got my father and uncle real competitive too. Drunk driving made fun and safe!
