Love your videos Ryan, it's such a selective & sustainable way to catch fish, I could watch these vids all day long!!

Thanks mate that’s a great compliment. To me it is important to be sustainable and selective and seeing what’s living under the surface is always interesting!

Nice shooting mate, plaice make great eating and always a good day with one in the bag. The weather gods are definitely angry this year so its good you found a sheltered location. Its also good to see the subs going up, way over due in my mind with the effort and quality you put in to making these vids.

Thanks buddy, although flatfish don't move much so it's pretty hard to miss! I've had a dry spell when it comes to plaice, it was good to break it. I know what you mean the wind has been a nightmare, we've gotta sacrifice something! You've been here since the start - you've probably seen my vids improve (marginally) this year and it's now a dedicated spearfishing channel rather than general hobby, that should help. In all fairness I've never asked people to 'like and subscribe' it's not really been something I've thought much about, but I really value the response I already get. It motivates me to make more videos!

Cheers Mat, the fish were caught at a place called Newtons Cove. Its a good, safe and shallow place to learn skills and catch flatfish but keep away from the breakwater wall or you'll get fined and avoid scuba divers! It's very popular with divers so can take a bit of a hammering, there were six other spearos out on that day. Can be useful for newbies to talk to others at the beach though! Good luck

Hey Ryan it’s Good to see another video , although this one is quite chilled compared to your other ones , I am now tying to spear around Norfolk area as down south is just too far for me . Keep updating Also any advice on locating these flaties ? What to look for etc ,
@ryane8881
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate it was a really relaxed day and that's shown in the video. I've never spearfished Norfolk but it could be good. To find flatfish from the shore I'd recommend finding areas where the reef meets the sand and swimming along that divide. Also if you can find an area with lots of worm casts it can be well worth having a look as fish sit in these areas looking to feed on the worms. In this video I found both, worm casts next to the edge of a reef which is why I did well that day!

I don’t know what sort of experience you already have so some of this might not be relevant. There are loads of things to learn. Learn to freedive properly. It’s really important to get equalisation/breath up and technique sorted. You’ll be more comfortable and see more things to catch. Make sure you know your species and relevant law to avoid getting into trouble. Good code of practice - don’t point a speargun at anyone. Load the speargun in the water and unload it in the water. Use a SMB and going with a dive buddy is a good idea. Be aware of currents. Other general common sense things. There are loads of other things to learn but have fun and you’ll probably pick it up quickly.

Yeah in the winter I wear a 7mm suit as temp is 8 Celsius. But the Weather is often rough and visibility rubbish so we don’t dive much over winter. Most don’t dive at all over winter.
