If you can’t fit chemical warmers in your boots by your toes or you don’t want to take them off, you can place the warmer on the front part of your foot just below the ankle. There is a major artery right there that supplies the foot with blood. You can even take your pulse there. Warm that artery and you’ll warm your foot.

When using those hand warmers I’ve always been taught it’s best to put them on top of your hands/feet so it warms up the veins going to your hands and toes
@rylandavis2976
5 ай бұрын
Those veins that you can see are not going to your hands or toes, they are taking deoxygenated blood back to your heart and lungs. The blood vessels that supply your fingers, are arteries and are pressurized and therefore deeper because its more catastrophic to injure them, also more difficult to directly heat them but i believe most of them are on the palm side of your hand and arm. The main artery that supplies your entire hand is right where you are taught to push on someones wrist in order to take a pulse. Im not sure about your feet, but on your hand placing a handwarmer on top is going to heat up blood that is going back to your core

You should also look at the reusable warmers. It's a gel pack with a metal disk inside. You click the disk, and the gel starts to crystallize. This gives off a decent amount of heat. To "recharge" them, simply place them in hot water until the crystal becomes gel again. They can be reused nearly indefinetly. You just have to be sure not to overheat the plastic pouch the gel is in. That plastic has a really low melting point, and any water mixed with the gel makes it stop working. I have a couple I picked up at a conference about 10 years ago that we still use when we go camping.

Antipersperant is unhealthy overall, because you're clogging up a basic bodily function. They also contain aluminium, which causes Alzheimer's, among other chemicals causing other diseases. Try instead aluminum-free talcum powder or baking soda on your feet to keep them dry, or put an absorbent cotton gauze inside your sock and change it out . Try changing socks more often if feet sweat a lot (although in cold, they normally don't sweat as much). It looks like you have good socks, but check the composition and see if pure wool socks or a cotton-wool-linen natural fiber combination isnt better at absorption than synthetic fibers. A trick to drying socks (or anything) almost instantly is, after wringing them thoroughly, laying them flat on a dry towel, rolling it up and wringing it tightly again. If after the first wring, they're not dry, turn them inside out and move them to another dry spot on the towel or change towels, and repeat until dry or nearly dry, then air out. You csn sir tyem out even while hiking by hanging them securrly from your backpack while on the go (thread a sturdy string or twine through them, or use a bulldog clip so you don't lose them on the trail). Also, putting a stick, dry sponge or pole inside the sock to separate the sides helps them dry faster. Ask trained, experienced specialists in sports footwear what tricks runners have for this, such as in places like REI or Roadrunner. Never heard of putting antipersperant on feet. Please check first with a medical foot specialist (orthopedic) or endocrinologist, to make sure you're not harming yourself or unintentionally offering harmful advice to others. A quick fix today isn't always the best thing for your health in the long run. You want a sound, sustainable solution, and there are several. Yoga nf stretching also help with circulation to extremities to keep warm.

Great tips. I heard of people putting plastic bags on their feet. Do they work well? Your feet would sweat more, it seems.
@hithere4719
5 ай бұрын
I do that between two pairs of socks. It’s something I only do when snow is deep and/or slushy. If my feet are going to get wet either way, I’d rather they simmer in their own sweat 😂
@WoodsboundOutdoors

They work like vapor barriers. Put one thin pair of socks on, then the plastic bag, then thicker socks over that. Your foot will get sweaty but stays warm since the plastic bag keeps the sweat from getting your outer sock and boots wet

The Cheyenne in your socks might be giving you the sensation of warmth rather than actually warmth. On the other hand, the Cheyenne in your water is forming electrolytes which helps you absorb water.

How does that happen? warmth without warmth? Only way to find out for sure is to test the temperature…vs control.

It probably makes you colder in the long run. The cayenne makes your feet release more heat, so it may seem like they are warming, but you are actually wasting the body heat. The heat is not coming from the pepper after all, but your own feet.

As long as he is providing his body with adequate resources, it can keep up with the increased energy expenditure in the long run. In essence he is “cheating” his body by making it act like it does in warmer temperatures. The body takes a “worst case scenario” approach to cold temperatures, bring in the heat away from his limbs, making him uncomfortable. But he is well fed and the rest of his body can handle the extra energy usage.

@@xeropunt5749 It vasodilates the blood vessels in the feet bringing warm blood to them so they don’t feel cold. When your body feels cold it wants to vasoconstrict which is why cold feet are pale. You probably won’t lose a lot of heat through your feet with the cayenne because they’re so bundled up not much heat is leaving. It might make them sweat though which is never good.

Cornstarch goes a long way toward preventing chafing on the feet and anywhere else. What a lot of people don't realize is that you don't need to buy cornstarch body powders with perfume in them. You can use pure cornstarch from the kitchen shelf. It's the same stuff only without the perfume and a whole lot cheaper. It prevents chafing and absorbs odors better than talcum and feels better too.

Cayenne pepper works so well when you’re cold! I always take cayenne pepper capsules, and a strong shot like you did before I go into really cold weather. It warms you up as quick as alcohol, but it ACTUALLY keeps your core warm instead of just your extremities and face like alcohol.

If you’re using handwarmers in gloves - always keep them where the palm meets the fingers. That’s the arterial palmer arch - so keeping the handwarmer there will warm up the spot where blood is distributed to the fingers

The hand warmers I always used on my feet to keep the cold off them. I also stand on cardboard. Not much I can do for my hands as I can’t wear gloves & do my work, my hands are in and out of cold water. A nice hot cup of tea always helps

Vapour barrier socks between liner socks and insulating socks work great. The reason your feet get cold is the sweat from your feet are making your insulating sock and boot insulation wet. Also make sure you boots are big enough that you can still wiggle your toes with all of your socks on. Poor blood flow to your feet will also make them cold.

The hand warmers are an awesome way to keep the feet warm. I do alot of duck hunting, freezing weather and just sitting there. The best way to keep the foot warmers working in your boots, is instead of putting them on the bottom of your foot put them on the top. Your sweat from your feet stops them from working. So you put them on the top and now they don't stop working from all the wet dampness
