Let's take one final look at Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights Michigan. I also take a final ride on the escalators serving the shoppers at the mall. Lakeside Mall opened in March of 1976. The mall had 4 anchor stores during the opening but added on 1 more in 1978 for Lord and Taylor. Throughout the years the mall had tons of memorable memories like in the 80s, the mall featured a tubular water slide. As years went on, the mall would continue to be a hotspot for shoppers. Although come the late 2010s, the Mall would start to go downhill with Sears and Lord and Taylor closing leaving only 3 anchor stores of the 5 open. This came along with potential plans to redevelop the mall. And as we heard earlier year, Lakeside Mall would close it's doors in Summer of 2024. The closing date was then determined to be June 30th, 2024 (Not July 1st as originally thought)
I made this video to help keep the memories of this mall alive, as seen in the video, tons of people are affected by the mall's closure. People who either grew up with the mall, worked at it, or just found it to be a neat place to hangout. Thank you Lakeside Mall for the all memories you brought to the people. Although I have only been to Lakeside a few times, it definitely does affect me since Metro Detroit has lost a beloved mall.
